Companies that were showing Blu-ray related products include JVC, Panasonic,
Pioneer, Mitsubishi, Mitsumi, Sharp, Sony, and TDK. The Blu-ray Disc
Association (BDA) also had a booth where they were offering general
information about the BDA and the Blu-ray Disc format. The group is
currently in the process of evaluating advanced audio codecs and finalizing
the logical/application format for BD-ROM discs, which they expect to be
finished by the end of the year. For more information and lots of photos,

Windows XP Release 2
http://www.winxpnews.com/rd/rd.cfm?id=041026TI-Release_2
The 'Net is abuzz this week with the news that there will be a new release
of Windows XP (now being referred to as "Release 2") prior to the release of
Longhorn, XP's successor. The source is none other than Steve Ballmer, CEO
of Microsoft, who apparently let the cat out of the bag at a Gartner
Symposium in Orlando, FL on October 21. Speculation has it that the new XP
will come out sometime next year, with Longhorn expected in 2006.

HarddiskOgg
http://www.fridgesoft.de/harddiskogg.php
HarddiskOgg takes a wave input stream from any Windows 95/98/2000/XP
compatible sampling device (including microphone input and line in) and
converts it to an Ogg Vorbis/Wave/Monkey's Audio/MP3 (optional) stream. This
happens in realtime, so basically it is a harddisk recorder in Ogg Vorbis.

Features:

Real-time encoding with bitrates from 32kbit/sec. up to 320kbit/sec.
Stereo or mono recording from 8kHz to 48kHz
Automatic numbering of output files
Can be placed in the systray and activated by a single click
Smart on-the-fly normalization for low-volume sources
Uses the high quality, patent free Ogg Vorbis encoding engine. Ogg Vorbis
easily outperforms MP3 in sound quality, especially at lower bit rates.
LAME MP3 encoder compatible. However, due to patent issues HarddiskOgg ist
not distributed with the LAME encoding DLL. If you want MP3 support, fetch
LAME_ENC.DLL from the web, but make sure you have the appropriate rights for
doing so.
Command line mode for easy integration or scheduled recordings
No fuss or stupid skinned interface, just works.
HarddiskOgg is FREEWARE!

Keeping Windows Up To Date
Face it: The computer industry moves so quickly that even your brand-new
copy of Windows is probably out of date in some way or another. The answer?
Until Windows , frustrated users had to search through the Internet
for the "magic fix," hoping to find the up-to-date, newly improved file that
would cure their systems and make Windows act normally.

Windows makes searching for fixes much easier with its newly improved
Windows Update program.
Click Windows Update from the top of the Start menu, and Windows heads for
the Windows Update
site on the Internet.

After you connect, little Web gremlins diagnose your computer and present
you with a list of needed repairs.
You click the updates you want, and the program installs them automatically.
Quick and easy.

Note: Windows Update is nothing new; it started in Windows 98.
However, it's been improved so it doesn't keep sending out false "update"
alarms to users, telling them an update is waiting -- only to have that
update disappear when the user arrives to pick it up.

Netscape 7.2
http://channels.netscape.com/ns/browsers/download.jsp
Netscape 7.2 - built with Mozilla? - is faster than previous versions, has
new, enhanced
security features and, most importantly, gives you a choice when it comes to
browsers.

The Netscape browser gives you "Tabbed Browsing," a Netscape feature that
lets you have multiple web sites open at the same time, in one browser
window.
Now it's easy to flip from one favorite site to another without fighting
through the desktop clutter of multiple browser windows.

Organize Your Desktop
If you are like me you may have a lot of icons on your desktop.

I created a new folder and called it Cleaning into it I put the program
icons for the Cleaning programs;
Cleanup, AdAware, Spybot Search and Destroy etc.

In another I called Photos, I put my program icons for graphics and photos:
Picture it, Paint Shop, Epson Scanner, etc.

You can save quite a lot of space by using folders.
You can even put your folders into a single folder to consolidate all the
programs you have added.
