Configure Windows Firewall
http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/expertzone/columns/bowman/sp2.asp
The built-in firewall for Windows XP has a new name in SP2, Windows
Firewall. This tool has undergone some of the biggest changes in SP2,
becoming stronger and more configurable. Service Pack 2 turns on the Windows
Firewall by default for every network connection that you use, whether
dial-up, wired Ethernet, or wireless. Currently users must choose to set up
the firewall, known as Internet Connection Firewall, for each network
connection. And many people don't bother or don't know how.

A firewall is a hardware or software system that prevents unauthorized
access from the Internet to your computer. The Blaster worm nearly brought
the Internet to a standstill in August 2003 by taking advantage of computers
without firewalls. A firewall is not the total answer?you also need to use
an antivirus program and practice safe e-mail handling. But a firewall is
always the first line of defense.

Windows Firewall is not one size fits all, on or off with a single set of
rules. It's configurable by individual connection in SP2. Three main
operating modes are available:

On with no exceptions
On with exceptions
Off
After installing Service Pack 2, Windows Firewall is turned on with
exceptions for all existing connections, and it will be turned on with
exceptions for any new connections.

Spybot S&D Update ~ v 1.3

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2471.html
Spybot - Search & Destroy can detect and remove spyware of different kinds
from your computer. Spyware is a relatively new kind of threat that common
anti-virus applications do not yet cover. If you see new toolbars in your
Internet Explorer that you didn't intentionally install, if your browser
crashes, or if you browser start page has changed without your knowing, you
most probably have spyware. But even if you don't see anything, you may be
infected, because more and more spyware is emerging that is silently
tracking your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile of you that
will be sold to advertisement companies. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no
harm in trying to see if something snooped into your computer, too :)

NOD32 Antivirus review - by Andrew Cooper

http://www.pcflank.com/review_nod1.htm

Here is a good review and configuration guide for Nod 32 AV program;
"The installation procedure is very well organized. The first step is to
select the installation mode: simple, advanced or expert. The installation
mode determines how many of the program settings will have to be configured
manually or are set by the wizard. This lets you optimize the time you spend
installing and configuring the software and also lets users of various skill
levels appropriately install NOD32 on their systems. "

Mike's Friday Tip ~ Signature Links Don't Work

When I fist decided to make a signature link in OE it did not work.

I kept retyping it and saving it.
But when I added it to an email and sent it to myself the link was not
'clickable'.

I was sure that there was something simple I was missing.
There was you have to have the " http;\\ " in front of the www.

Sometimes it is the simple things that can cause us the most problems;>}

Antivirus software is a good choice to scan your system for possible viruses,
however no virus scanner is 100% effective as manufactures cannot keep up with
the rapid change of viruses that happens daily.
Be sure to update yours regularly.
