EventSentry Lite Freeware
http://www.netikus.net/products_eventsentry.html?SESSION=
Monitoring event logs is absolutely necessary if you want to maintain a
healthy Windows network. In order to detect problems before your servers
crash, you review event logs on a regular basis. But if you are running more
than one server, this review process is tedious.
EventSentry is a service that runs on Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows 2003
Server and WinXP that actively monitors your server's (or workstation's)
event log. Configure EventSentry to notify you if important events matching
your filter criteria occur or consolidate your event logs into one central
location such as a central ODBC database. Through EventSentry, you can be
actively notified in several ways when events take place including email,
ASCII file, ODBC, Unix syslog, network (net send), process, sound and
desktop.
EventSentry also emulates a Unix/Linux syslog server in which incoming
syslog packets are logged to the Windows event log.

Touch Puf
http://www.l0phtbox.net/touchpuf/index2.htm
Works in Windows 9x, ME, XP
You probably already know that I like thinking games that are different.
Well, this game fits that description.
You have to think to be able to solve each level of this game.
Each level is a little harder than the last.
Touch Puf is fully featured with more than 100 levels ranging from very easy
to very hard, a level editor that will allow you to create your own Touch
Puf games.
Password protection is provided so that you can give the games you create to
your friends without allowing them to edit your game (unless they reach the
last level of your game).

Handy Recovery
http://www.handyrecovery.com/
Handy Recovery is an easy to use program designed to restore files
accidentally deleted from a hard disk or a diskette. The program can recover
files damaged by virus attacks, power failures and software faults. If some
program does not use Recycle Bin when deleting files, Handy Recovery can
restore such files. It can also recover files moved to Recycle Bin after it
has been emptied.
With Handy Recovery you can browse the content of your disk like you do it
in Windows Explorer. The only difference is that you see deleted files and
folders along with the regular ones. Deleted files are marked with special
icons. This helps you easily find the file that you need to recover.
Recovered files can be saved to any disks accessible on your system.
You can also restore the full branch of folders tree containing selected
files and folders. Along with the main file data, the program can recover
alternative data streams which are used on NTFS file system to store
additional information about files.
Handy Recovery works under Win 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP/2003 operating systems.
The program supports all Windows file systems for hard and floppy drives
including FAT12/16/32 and NTFS/NTFS 5.

Hidden Files
What are "hidden files" and how do I access them?
That's one of those "if you need to ask you shouldn't be messing with it"
type of questions.
However, hidden files are files that do not, by default, show up.
You can set your computer to show your hidden files by clicking the Tools
menu in Explorer, then Folder Options. When the Folder Options screen shows
up, click the View tab and find the Hidden Files item. You'll see an option
for showing all files there.
Once you do that, you should be able to see all your hidden files.
Keep in mind that these files are hidden for a reason.
Most of them can not/should not be opened by the user and contain important
information for your computer.
Should you accidentally delete them, you may run into a world of digital
hurt (stuff like programs not running, Windows not working, etc).
So, be careful with hidden files.
Don't mess with them unless you know exactly what the file is for.

Mike's Friday Tip ~ Firewall Security
With the latest rash of virus/worms it is important that your firewall block
both incoming and outgoing traffic.
What this means it that if you get a virus/worm/Trojan it cannot acces the
internet without your permishion.
The firewall built into Windows XP does NOT block outgiong traffic.
There are several good free firewalls availible;

Antivirus software is a good choice to scan your system for possible viruses,
however no virus scanner is 100% effective as manufactures cannot keep up with
the rapid change of viruses that happens daily.
Be sure to update yours regularly.
