DOSPRN 1.72 sharware
http://www.dosprn.com/,
This program helps to extend life to old DOS programs. Nowadays,
many laser
and jet printers have powerful features but ... can not print a
simple text
accurately. Besides, some inexpensive printers can not print in
text mode at
all (the so-called win-printers).
DOSPRN allows you to use a good old DOS program with new printers
irrespective of their types (Yes, USB and network printers,
print-servers,
and PDF-printers too!)

How Computer Viruses Work by Marshall Brain
http://computer.howstuffworks.com/virus.htm
Computer viruses are mysterious and grab our attention. On the one
hand,
viruses show us how vulnerable we are. A properly engineered virus
can have
an amazing effect on the worldwide Internet. On the other hand,
they show
how sophisticated and interconnected human beings have become.

Outlook 2003's New Reading Pane
If you want to skim through a whole bunch of messages quickly, the
Reading
Pane in Outlook 2003 can help. The Reading Pane, a new feature in
this
latest version of Outlook, replaces the AutoPreview Pane. When you
choose
View, Reading Pane, Right, the Inbox screen divides into two
sections. The
left section shows your list of messages; the right shows the
contents of
the message you've selected. To move from one message to the next,
just
press the down-arrow key. You can also view any message in your
Inbox by
clicking the title of the message. If you prefer to see the text
of your
messages on the bottom of the screen, you can also choose View,
Reading
Pane, Bottom, but you can't see as much of your message.
The difference between looking at messages in the Reading Pane and
looking
at them in AutoPreview mode is that you can see graphics and
formatting in
the Reading Pane, but you can see only the text of a message in
the
AutoPreview mode. If your friends send you messages using Outlook
stationery, for example, you can appreciate their graphic genius
by viewing
their messages in the Reading Pane.

Ultimate Network Security: How to Install a Firewall by Scott
Spanbauer

asp
>From the December 2003 issue of PC World magazine
Everything you need to know about selecting and installing a
firewall for
your PC or network.
Connecting your naked PC to the Internet is like leaving your
house
unlocked--eventually, someone will wander in, rifle your underwear
drawer,
and empty the jewelry case. To make your system's points of entry
more Net
secure, install one of the many free software firewalls now
available, and
set up a hardware-based firewall for backup.

Windows Searches
Do you have a particular folder you're always rummaging through?
Maybe your "My Documents" folder? Well, do I have a trick for you!
As you probably know (or will know here in a second), if you
right-click a
folder and select Find or Search, you'll get a Find (or search)
box that is
automatically set to look in the folder you were just
right-clicking.
So, if you try this with your My Documents folder, you'll get a
search or
find box with the "look in" area already set to My Documents.
Well, let's take that to the next level by putting shortcuts on
your Desktop
for folders you search through a lot. That way, you can do the
trick above
without hunting around through Explorer or My Computer. Just
right-click
the shortcut and you can select Search or Find from there.
How? It's easy:
We'll pretend you have a folder in My Documents called "Work."
Here's how you would set up this trick:
1. Open Explorer or My Computer. Head to the folder you want to
make a shortcut to. In this case, "My Documents\Work."
2. Right-click, hold and drag the folder to your Desktop. When
you release the folder, you'll get a little menu with several
options. Choose "Create Shortcuts Here."
That's it! You should have a shortcut on your Desktop for your
"Work"
folder.
Just right-click it and select either Find or Search from the
resulting
menu.
Of course, you can double-click this shortcut to jump directly
into the
folder.

IE-SPYAD free
http://www.staff.uiuc.edu/~ehowes/resource.htm#IESPYAD
a Registry file (IE-ADS.REG) that adds a long list of sites and
domains
associated with known advertisers, marketers, and crapware pushers
to the
Restricted sites zone of Internet Explorer. Once this list of
sites and
domains is "merged" into your Registry, most marketers,
advertisers, and
crapware pushers on the Net will not be able to use cookies,
ActiveX
controls, Java applets, or scripting to compromise your privacy or
your PC
while you surf the Net. Nor will they be able to use your browser
to push
unwanted pop-ups, cookies, or auto-installing programs on you.

You can change that.
In Windows XP the shutdown is controlled in XP from the Control
Panel

Antivirus software is a good choice to scan your system for possible viruses,
however no virus scanner is 100% effective as manufactures cannot keep up with
the rapid change of viruses that happens daily.
Be sure to update yours regularly.
