PopFile
http://popfile.sourceforge.net/
Freeware

POPFile is an automatic mail classification tool. Once properly set up and
trained, it will work in the background of your computer, scanning mail as
it arrives and filing it however you wish. You can give it a simple job,
like separating out junk e-mail, or a complicated one - like filing mail
into a dozen folders. Think of it as a personal assistant for your inbox.

Just the FAQs
http://www.faqs.org/
Many newsgroups periodically post a list of frequently asked questions and
their answers, or "FAQs." They hope that you read the FAQ before posting a
message that they have answered a dozen times before, and you should.

The Internet FAQ Consortium [ http://www.faqs.org/ ] collects FAQs from all
over Usenet, creating, in effect, an online encyclopedia with the latest
information on a vast array of topics that is accessible with your Web
browser.

FAQs are usually quite authoritative, although sometimes they're just
opinion.
Reader beware!

WinXP firewall: good and bad points
http://www.pcflank.com/art29.htm
Windows XP operating system goes with built-in firewall software known as
Internet Connection Firewall (ICF). But should users enable it? In this
brief article we will try to find the answer.

Internet Connection Firewall is a security system that acts as a protective
boundary between a network and the outside world. It is used to set
restrictions on what information is communicated from your home or small
office network to and from the Internet to your network.

Gadwin PrintScreen Freeware
http://www.gadwin.com/printscreen/?prnscr
Windows 98/Me/2000/XP, or Windows NT 4.0SP6

Want to create a screenshot suitable for saving or printing?
There are several hotkey combos to choose from (PrintScreen is the default).
Once you've chosen your favorite combo, head to the Destination tab and have
the screen print out instantly, copy the capture to the clipboard, save it
to a specific folder, or even send it through e-mail. You can perform full
screen captures, or
only capture a specific window.

Use Windows XP System Information to access remote system's data

In the days of old, if you wanted information about a series of systems on
your network, you had to visit each one independently, unless you had some
fancy and expensive software which allowed for remote access. Today, with
Windows XP, you can access all of the information you can dream of without
even leaving your seat.
Simply open the System Information utility, which is located in System Tools
on your Accessories menu. Access the View menu and then select Remote
Computer.
Enter the machine name or IP address and you're ready to go.

SpeedFan 4.08 ~ freeware
http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php
SpeedFan is a freeware program that monitors fan speeds, temperatures and
voltages in computers with hardware monitoring chips. SpeedFan can even
access S.M.A.R.T. info for those hard disks that support this feature
(almost all :-)) and show hard disk temperatures too, if supported. SpeedFan
can even change the FSB on some motherboards. At the lowest level, SpeedFan
is an hardware monitoring software, but its main feature is that it can
control the speed of the fans (depending on your sensor chip) according to
the temperatures inside your pc, thus reducing noise and power consumption.
Most Winbond sensors and ASUS AS99127F support fan speed changing, as well
as others from MYSON, ANALOG DEVICES, NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTORS and ITE, but
the motherboard should make use of available pins. This means that if you
have, say, a W83782D on a BP6 then you're ok. If you have a W83782D on some
GigaByte's... you're not :-)
SpeedFan works fine with Win9x, WinME, WinNT, Win2k and WinXP.

Mike's Friday Tip: Remove Win XP Desktop Cleanup

If you have had Windows XP for a while you may have noticed that every 2
months it prompts you to do a
Desktop Clean-Up.
Even if you cancel it it pops up again in 60 days.

To permently rid yourself of the pop up, right-click on a blank spot on the
desktop and choose Properties>
Click the Desktop Tab> Customize Desktop button.
Then remove the check from the box "Run Desktop Cleanup Wizard every 60
days."

Antivirus software is a good choice to scan your system for possible viruses,
however no virus scanner is 100% effective as manufactures cannot keep up with
the rapid change of viruses that happens daily.
Be sure to update yours regularly.
