Countermeasures to key logging
http://searchsecurity.techtarget.com/tip/1,289483,sid14_gci818625,00.html
James Michael Stewart

Maintaining a secure network environment requires you to address an ever
expanding range of vulnerabilities. Spending too much time and energy on one
area can blind you to loopholes in another. There are some frightening
developments in the arena of information gathering, such as
keystroke-capturing devices.

A keystroke-capturing device is a small hardware device that is attached to
a computer system without the knowledge of the intended victim. Usually they
are attached between the computer case and the keyboard connector and are so
small that most of us would not even notice their presence.

Paragon Hard Disk Manager 5.5 Software Review
http://pcin.net/help/software/paragonhdm55.php
"For years PowerQuest was the only name in hard drive partition utilities.
Over the last few years others have joined the fray. I recently had an
opportunity to review Paragon Software Group's Hard Disk manager 5.5
(HDM55). If you were thinking of purchasing a hard drive utility, then you
had better give this a chance.
Overall, Paragon Hard Disk Manager 5.5 holds its own against the
competition. The interface needs some improvement, but the software is all
quite easy to use. And I can't emphasize enough that if you are looking for
a complete set of tools, then this is the product for you."

Check If Site Is Still Up
http://www.hypersol.com/
Freeware

Here's a nice utility for Webmasters who want to make sure their
site is working properly. Er, at least the connection part of
it. Why wouldn't it be? Computers, man. That's why. They're bound
to have problems --
even the most expensive models. Enter a URL (or two) and this
thing will ping the site and zap the results right back. Ya know,
it's kinda like when the manager of the fast food restaurant
stops by to make sure everything is running smoothly. Sometimes
things just don't get done unless you do them yourself.

File Associations

Do you have file association anxiety?
Do your JPEG's open up in the wrong program (say your web
browser and not your imaging software)?
Do you have a file type that isn't associated with any program?
Well, there is a solution!

1. Open Explorer (right-click the Start button and select
Explore) and head to a file you would like to
either associate with another program or get associated with a
program for the first time.

2. Once you get to the file, hold down your SHIFT key and
right-click it. You will be presented with a
menu that gives you an option to Open With.... Select that.

Oh, if you're using XP, you may not even need to hold down the
shift key to get this to work. XP usually
give you an Open with item on the right-click menu with a
sub-menu full of options. If you want to change the association,
you'll need to select the Choose Program option. XP Open With
picture:

3. This will open up a screen where you can tell Windows what
program to open that particular file with.
Choose the program and make sure the little "Always use this
program to open this type of file" checkbox is checked. Hit OK.

That should do it. Windows will now use the new file association
when opening the file you just worked
with.

Antivirus software is a good choice to scan your system for possible viruses,
however no virus scanner is 100% effective as manufactures cannot keep up with
the rapid change of viruses that happens daily.
