Microsoft Service and Suppert Extended
http://www.aumha.org/elist.htm
For Windows 98, both Original and SE, warranty support and non-security
hotfix support now end June 30, 2003. Paid phone support now will end
January 16, 2004. Security fix support (for which there will be no
additional charge) also will end one year from today on January 16, 2004.
Until now, Microsoft has promised at least five years of mainstream support
from the date of a product?s availability. Going forward under the new
program, in addition to that mainstream support, Microsoft will post all
public hotfixes, security fixes, download site content, and other online
information for a period of at least eight years following a products
general availability.

Do You Have Parasites?

Screen for Adware, Spyware, Scumware, Diallers, ?Jackers
and other unsolicited commercial software
This page allows you to check your computer for over five dozen different
parasites. Embedded is a script by Andrew Clover, which he makes available
from his web site at doxdesk.com. You must be using Internet Explorer for
this test to work, and JavaScript must be enabled. Since new malware is
being written and circulated all the time, you still may want to examine
your system with Ad-Aware or another malware screener ? but this script
checks for quite a lengthy list!

Flight Gear free
http://gnuwin.epfl.ch/apps/flightgear/en/index.html
The FlightGear flight simulator project is an open-source, multi-platform,
cooperative flight simulator development project. Source code for the entire
project is available and licensed under the GNU General Public License.
The goal of the FlightGear project is to create a sophisticated flight
simulator framework for use in research or academic environments, for the
development and pursuit of other interesting flight simulation ideas, and as
an end-user application. We are developing a sophisticated, open simulation
framework that can be expanded and improved upon by anyone interested in
contributing.
There are many exciting possibilties for an open and free flight simulator.
We hope that this project will be interesting and useful to many people in
many areas.

WaveLock
http://www.securewave.com/products/free_utilities/wavelock.html
The following program is unsupported. That means:
You alone are responsible for what happens when the program is run.
SecureWave offers no warranties on the program.
SecureWave grants you a free license to use this program within your
organisation; we do not commit to offer any updates, bug fixes, changes, or
anything else.
What you see is what you get; there is no elaborate manual explaining this
program.
Details are in the license agreement whih will be presented to you when you
run the installation program.
That said, you may find WaveLock useful:
Summary
Windows 2000 and Windows XP come with drivers for several wireless LAN
("WLAN") adapters; installation requires only insertion of one of those
adapters. Administrative privileges are not required, as no new drivers must
be registered with the operating system. WaveLock assists in enforcing
security policies by blocking access to these adapters, making it harder to
circumvent firewalls, filters, proxies, and other required safeguards.
To install WaveLock, download and uncompress wavelock.zip. Execute the
resulting wavelock.msi file (a Windows Installer setup), which installs
wavelock.sys. Reboot to load and activate WaveLock.
A list of the wireless network adapters supported out-of-the-box on Windows
2000 and Windows XP can be found below. Note that WaveLock cannot know about
and will therefore not block additional drivers installed by administrators.

You need to stay informed. Well, you don't NEED to stay informed,
I guess... but if you want to be a vital part of the human race,
it's a good idea to keep tabs on what the human race is doing.
Yes, of course. This command line tool downloads only the news
that you care about and arranges it into a nifty Web page, ready
for eyeball consumption. Hey, on those cold, Iowa days it sure
beats walking down to the news stand. Not that I have anything
against newspapers, mind you. I just like things that make my
life a little easier. Any site that has an XML file (like
Lockergnome!) can be added to your list quickly, easily, and
safely.

Double Your Printing Options
On a daily basis, we routinely print out several types
of documents, including mail, formatted Word
documents, and web pages. For most of our web
page printouts, we often only need the "text"
content and not the full web page's graphics. It
gets extremely frustrating when we have to change
printer properties for a specific print job.
Your printer may actually be capable of the naming
and saving of custom printing settings, but that still
forces you to open up your printer settings and make
the change. Is there a better way? Sure!
You can install your printer driver twice under
different names and settings. If you do this, simply
select the specific printer name (and custom
settings that you've already configured). One printer
listing could be labeled "Draft" for quick low
resolution printing, while you could label the other
"Full Color" for full-resolution, high-quality output.
Installing a second copy of your printer is fairly
simple. Do this by selecting Start, Settings,
Printers and clicking on "Add Printer". Some
printer installations require a special driver/setup
disk, so make sure you have it available. As you
proceed, you will be prompted by Windows to label
this particular printer, and this is where you would
label it "Draft" or "Full Color", depending on how
you've already labeled your current installed
active printer.
After the successful installation and labeling of the
added printer, click the icon's properties to your
appropriate custom settings. The next time you're
in your word processor and want a quick draft,
just select the specific printer name from your
word processor's Print Dialog box.

Antivirus software is a good choice to scan your system for possible viruses,
however no virus scanner is 100% effective as manufactures cannot keep up with
the rapid change of viruses that happens daily.
Be sure to update yours regularly.
