BATCH FILE ABCs
http://www.computerhope.com/batch.htm
Batch files are programs that allow MS-DOS and Windows users to create a
file to perform a long tasks fast. Such as opening certain programs ran
frequently, deleting or managing files, etc. Simple batch files do not
require any special programming skills and usually can be done by knowing
the below commands and or just DOS commands.

Virtual Memory in Windows XP
http://www.aumha.org/a/xpvm.htm
This page attempts to be a stand-alone description for general users of the
way Virtual Memory operates in Windows XP.
Other pages on this site are written mainly for Windows 98/ME
http://www.aumha.org/a/memmgmt.htm
(see Windows 98 & Win ME Memory Management) and, while a lot is in common,
there are significant differences in Windows XP

What is Virtual Memory?
A program instruction on an Intel 386 or later CPU can address up to 4GB of
memory, using its full 32 bits. This is normally far more than the RAM of
the machine. (The 32nd exponent of 2 is exactly 4,294,967,296, or 4 GB. 32
binary digits allow the representation of 4,294,967,296 numbers ? counting
0.) So the hardware provides for programs to operate in terms of as much as
they wish of this full 4GB space as Virtual Memory, those parts of the
program and data which are currently active being loaded into Physical
Random Access Memory (RAM). The processor itself then translates
(?maps?) the virtual addresses from an instruction into the correct
physical equivalents, doing this on the fly as the instruction is executed.
The processor manages the mapping in terms of pages of 4 Kilobytes each - a
size that has implications for managing virtual memory by the system

 - Spam: costs and security -

Madrid, January 7, 2003 -- Spam, or unsolicited junk e-mail that arrives in
e-mail inboxes, can have substantial financial consequences for companies
and represents a possible security threat to computers and the data they
contain.

According to a study by Ferris Research - and reported by CNN at
http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/biztech/01/03/spam.costs.ap/index.html - the
annual cost to companies of junk e-mail received is estimated at $8.9
billion dollars in the U.S and around $2.5 billion for European firms. An
additional $500 million is figured to be lost by both European and US
service providers. From the data obtained in the report, researchers have
calculated that an average of 4.4 seconds is lost when deleting each spam
message, representing a loss in productivity in the U.S. of approximately $4
billion each year.

The security threats associated with spamming include the use of texts which
attempt to get users to divulge confidential information, and messages with
HTML pages and script capable of downloading code onto a users computer.

AutoSizer Version 1.4 ~ Freeware
http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Reviews/r52.html

Some details in using PC can be really annoying.
For example, these stupid windows, which don?t want to pop up in their
natural, full, or, on the contrary, minimized size.
Forget about it!
The program, which is called AutoSizer will easily solve all these problems
simultaneously. It works so simple, that you even cannot believe.
All you have to do is just to download it, then install, and then select the
point in its menu ?Start every time Windows starts?. Then its icon will
be always on your desktop bar ? to give the fastest reinforcements to your
brains? army, when your software annoys you.
You just click the icon, choose the necessary (for you) window to change,
resize it (choose the proper regular size in which it should pop-up) and
then let AutoSizer do its usual and useful work.
Every time you open that resized window it will be shown in the chosen size.

Very smart, obedient and not a troubleshooting program ? it seemed to have
no disadvantages at all.
It just correct all the disadvantages of windows.
It requires Win95 or higher and is very simple in use.

Larry The Dinosaur II Version 1.0 ~ freeware
 http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Reviews/r912.html
The New Year Eve is one of those days when people reflect on the past and
try predicting the future. Not all people are that complicated - most just
enjoy the precious present.
Whatever you do today and tonight, spend a few minutes having a look at an
amusing arcade game - Larry The Dinosaur II.
Larry The Dinosaur II is an arcade game that works under DOS or its
simulation in most Windows operating systems. This is not exactly an arcade,
though at the very basic level it is a 2D game. There is a plot, there're
lots of encounters - pleasant and not so very desirable - and there is
ammunition, which makes this a quest with sparks of action too.
There's no need to retell the plot - basically, Larry is there to save
the Earth again. The dialogs are amusing, the graphics is appalling; on the
whole it's a great game to kill the time. Download it today and check it out
yourself.

AutoWhat? 2
Freeware

AutoComplete Errors Fixed
Internet Explorer's AutoComplete feature can save you a lot of
time when completing Web forms but it doesn't allow you to edit
"saved" responses. This can be a real pain, particularly when it
has saved wrong or mistyped responses. Now you can edit to your
heart's content with this free utility from PC Magazine (1.24MB)

Follow The Bouncing Arrow
Remember that bouncing arrow that comes flying across the bottom
of the screen and then bounces off the Start Menu? You can
eliminate this annoying little icon in the registry. Activate the
registry editor (regedit.exe) and go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Polici
es\Explorer.

If you see nothing here, then in the Explorer key create a binary
value called "NoStartBanner." To do this,
right-click the Explorer key, select New and then Binary Value.
The name is NoStartBanner.

Double click NoStartBanner, enter this value 01 00 00 00 and
press OK. Entering binary values in the registry is different
than editing text so it may take some getting used to. If you
ever want the arrow back, change the 01 to 00 in the above
numeric sequence.

~&~&~&~&~&~&~

Remember: Before making Any registry change either suggested by
us or anyone else, Backup your registry! One wrong move in the
registry could render windows inoperable! With a current backup
you can restore your registry to its previous condition before
you made the change. Backing up is a simple procedure that takes
seconds and can save you hours of work later if you make a
mistake.
