Fishing for Chips
http://www.embeddedlinks.com/chipdir/
If you've ever needed to identify what a board does
just from its IC chips, you'll find this site invaluable.
It allows you to identify chip function, pin-outs and other
data just by entering the chip ID number.

Free Emergency 911 Cell Phone Calls
http://home.attbi.com/~dakine/cellphones.htm
Did you know that all cell phones can connect to the 911 service even if
they are not activated? If you have a cell phone and the subscription to a
service has expired you can still use the phone to contact the 911 emergency
service as long as the phone has power. You can also call 611 at any time.
611 connects you to an operator for reactivating the phones service.

All cell phones can be tracked by the phone company antennas being used. If
the phone can access 3 cell phone antennas (or towers) the phone location
can be triangulated. 911 has used this feature to locate parties in trouble.
The results of triangulation while very accurate are not instant, time is
required to notify the phone company and for the Telecom technicians to make
the calculations.

Loose Change free Game
http://www.adders.org/freeware/index.html
A game to help with learning about money.
This program uses current coins in circulation at the time of making the
program i.e. August 2002.
It is available in 5 flavours!
GB Pounds Sterling, Australian Dollars, Canadian Dollars, US Dollars and
Euros.
If you would like me to produce a version in a currency not shown then
download one of the above to see if it would be useful, first. GB pounds
sterling uses 100 pennies = 1 Pound.
This decimal system is reasonably standard around the world.
If you think it would be useful then email me and I'll see what I can do.
I cannot promise to produce a version for other currencies but I will
definitely try.
Program includes an uninstall facility.

Configuring Jaguar's Firewall by Chris Cochella
<http://www.macdevcenter.com/pub/a/mac/2002/12/27/macosx_firewall.html>
Many of you already know that Jaguar, Mac OS X 10.2, comes
with a built-in firewall. In an effort to keep things simple,
Apple provides the basic ability to configure this firewall via
the GUI interface in System Preferences, but otherwise is silent
on its extensive benefits and usefulness.

This firewall is called ipfw (Internet Protocol FireWall), which is
undoubtedly familiar to Unix and Linux users but completely
unfamiliar to the traditional Mac world. We're going to change this.
Don't let the Unix heritage deter you; instead, let it motivate you.

Sayz Me v0.51
http://sayzme.sourceforge.net/
 W9x/2k/XP FREE
Sayz Me is a simple text-to-speech reader that can read text aloud
from Web pages, e-mails, or documents. It uses the Microsoft speech
engine and synthetic voices. You can use it to listen to text and give
your eyes a rest, or type in words or sentences to hear them spoken
aloud. Sayz Me allows you to adjust pitch, speed, and volume, select
a voice of your choice, and highlight words as they are spoken.

Worried about cyberattacks
http://Vmyths.com/rant.cfm?id=535&page=4
A cyber-terrorist months ago knocked out 6% of the U.S. Department
of the Interior.
He typed a few commands on a keyboard and poof!
Federal employees still cannot effectively use their PCs & servers
to do official government business. The man who did it is an
agent of a foreign power and he lives in the U.S. --
yet he walks the streets as a free man.
The FBI refuses to arrest him and the White House cyber-terrorism
czar won't lift a finger to bring critical government computers
back online. Who in Washington will save us from a sovereign's
agent who cyber-attacks the United States with impunity?

Free Disk Cleaner
http://www.glocksoft.com/temp_cleaner/index.htm
Freeware

G-Lock Temp Cleaner is a handy little utility that identifies all
those .$$$, .tmp, and other temporary file types cluttering up
your hard disk. Once identified, the Cleaner allows you to delete
those you don't want. It even works over a network which makes it
handy for sysadmins.

Refreshing Sites
OK, do you visit web pages with dynamic, frequently updated
content? You know, stuff like news, stocks, and weather-type
sites. Have you ever noticed that sometimes you just can't get
the page to refresh? Sure, you hit the refresh button but it's
the same page (and you just know it's been updated). Explorer is
stubbornly refusing to re-load the page properly.

Is there any hope? Are you going to be stuck looking at outdated
information forever?

You'll be glad to learn there is a little trick you can use. Just
put a question mark after the URL. Your browser, not being all
that bright, will think it's a new page and re-load it for you.
The question mark won't
affect the page or the way it's displayed, so don't sweat that
part.

Anyhow, here's an example. Let's say you went to:

www.yoururlhere.com

To make the page completely re-load, type this instead:

www.yoururlhere.com?

Oh, if you need to keep re-loading, you can keep adding stuff
after the question mark:

www.yoururlhere.com?1kjsdk

Cool huh?

Why does this work?

When your browser sees the question mark, it only loads the page
in front of it. However, since the whole URL changes, you get a
complete re-load of the page.

however no virus scanner is 100% effective as manufactures cannot keep up with
