Defeat Telemarketers for FREE!
http://home.attbi.com/~dakine/defeat.htm
Yes! You can stop Telemarketers COLD!
Now you can save that $40.00 you were thinking of spending on a TeleZapper.
You can even save a couple bucks on the eBay Auctions for this sound file.
The TeleZapper is a device that plays the first tone in the three tones that
precede the telephone company's historic "This number has been disconnected"
message. Most telemarketing predictive dialers listens for that tone, and
when it is present the dialer assumes the number is disconnected, The result
is, the telemarketing dialer will immediately disconnect and delete your
phone number from it's data bank list.
This is incredibly easy to set up, if you have an answering machine and
speakers for your computer you have everything you need.

GEM, a Mac-like GUI and OS for Low-end PCs by Roger M
http://lowendpc.com/box/2002/0530.html
I used to wonder why no one came out with a Mac-like GUI/OS for the PC long
before Windows 3.1 or Windows 95. It turns out someone did. Unknown to most
people, Windows wasn't the first GUI for PCs -- GEM was.
What is GEM? GEM (Graphical Environment Manager) was the first graphical
user interface for the PC. It was developed by Digital Research and first
shown in 1983.
The first version of GEM has been described as "the Mac OS running on a PC."
In fact, one person told me when they saw GEM on a PC, they thought the
fledgling Windows would be replaced by GEM. GEM was a lot like the Mac or
Windows 95 -- way back in the mid-1980s.

Trojans/Virus/ and Worms How The Spread
Madrid, December 27 2002 - Over the last few years, viruses, worms and
Trojans have adapted to the new channels of communication offered by the
Internet, using the various protocols that exist as a means of propagation.
Nowadays, most infections take place via the Internet, which makes network
perimeter security a crucial aspect when implementing an antivirus policy.
Even though e-mail has become the main means of propagation, file downloads
through the Internet, FTP and newsgroups, or file sharing through
peer-to-peer networks or chat systems also pose threats which should not be
dismissed.
Each of these operations has its own specific communication protocol: SMTP,
POP3, HTTP, FTP, NNTP..., with TCP/IP, the Internet protocol par excellence,
as the basis for all of them.
Once you have detected the main channels through which viruses could reach
your systems, a good security policy consists of implementing safety
measures at entry points. In the case of home users and workstations, it is
essential to have an antivirus that can integrate with your mail client, and
detect and eliminate virus even before opening e-mail messages. Protection
must cover other TCP/IP protocols in order to prevent virus downloads while
you browse the Internet.
In corporate environments, all the Internet traffic usually goes through
certain points of the network, such as the firewall, proxy or mail servers.
Installing an antivirus at those points will allow you to protect all
inbound and outbound traffic through the network, implementing a proactive
solution that stops viruses and prevents them from reaching workstations.
Although perimeter antiviruses are an important security measure, network
workstations must not be neglected in order to prevent infections that
could enter via other means (floppy disks, CD-ROM, etc.).

Is your E-mail Stuck?
If this hasn't already happened to you, it probably will at some
time or another.
You have a piece of e-mail ready to go out, you try to send it,
and it won't go. All you get is an error message during every
send cycle. The e-mail seems like it's "stuck" in your outbox.
Sometimes it can get even worse (especially with Outlook /
Outlook Express). You may have a piece of
e-mail come in that causes your computer or e-mail client to lock
up when you select (click) it.
What can you do?
The first thing to try is going to the e-mail in question and
deleting it. If it's in your outbox, go to your
outbox, highlight the e-mail, and hit your Delete key.
What if that piece of e-mail is causing your e-mail program to
lock up? Well, don't worry, there's still
hope.
Most of the time those lockups are due to something in the e-mail
itself. It could be a bad script, corrupt
sound, errant piece of coding, or any number of other problems.
When you click the e-mail, it automatically opens in the preview
pane and locks things up before you can get to the Delete key.
The solution is to temporarily close that preview pane, then
select and delete the e-mail. I've never seen
that little trick not work.
So, how do you close the preview pane? Easy! (instructions below
are for Outlook Express) Other email programs should have
similiar steps review the Help menu for information
1. Click the View menu, Layout.
2. Uncheck the "Preview Pane" checkbox (check out all the other
options too).
Hit OK and you should be able to go in and get rid of that
problematic e-mail. Once it's history, just
follow the steps above, but this time check the preview pane box.
Back to normal again!

Antivirus software is a good choice to scan your system for possible viruses,
however no virus scanner is 100% effective as manufactures cannot keep up with
the rapid change of viruses that happens daily.
Be sure to update yours regularly.
