Christy and I would like to take a moment to wish all of our American
subscribers a Happy Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving (USA)
http://www.calcom.de/eng/holiday/hday.php4?dayNo=34
The first American Thanksgiving was a religious event occuring on 4 December
1619. The 38 English settlers who arrived at Berkeley Plantation on the
James River had a charter which decreed that their day of arrival be
celebrated yearly. The Pilgrims celebrated a day of thanksgiving at Plymouth
Rock in 1621.
In 1863 Abraham Lincoln proclaimed the last Thursday in November as a day of
thanksgiving.
The Congress declared in 1941 that the fourth Thursday in November would be
the legal federal holiday after 1941.
Franklin D. Roosevelt tried to implement this date already in 1939 inorder
to allow more time for Christmas shopping.

Did the children at the Plymouth Colony Thanksgiving feast play these games?
Could be! Some of them are very old.

In "More Scumware-By-EULA"
(http://www.langa.com/newsletters/2002/2002-11-21.htm#2 ) we discussed how
"Friendgreetings" abuses its End-User-License-Agreement by embedding deep
within it a clause that says, in effect, that you're allowing them to
place scumware on your PC. Alas, they're not the only one doing this, and
other, similar vendors keep shifting their domain name to try to stay one
step ahead of anti-scumware tools:
Below is a list of who is sending that Emailer Hack they
"legally" trick people into. To get around the Anti Spam tools
they use new names. I don't see how they can afford to do this.
Each of the names are real and do have that so called "non-
virus" ready for a sucker [to download]. The list grows every
day...---Jim Cooke

Kill A Virus, Win A Bonus
Have fun buying!
www.kaspersky.com./game.html
Kaspersky Labs, an international data-security software developer,
invites users to take part in a virtual battle against viruses and win
discounts towards the purchase of Kaspersky Anti-Virus Solutions.
The game "Virus Hunter" can be found on the Kaspersky Labs site at
www.kaspersky.com./game.html. Playing this game makes it possible to
combine the "pleasant" with the "practical" by earning discounts up to 25%.
The game has 5 levels with increasing difficulty. Scoring enough points
to graduate to each new level earns a player an increasingly greater
discount:
Level 1 - 7% discount
Level 2 - 10% discount
Level 3 - 15% discount
Level 4 - 20% discount
Level 5 - 25% discount
Players need to earn scores for each corresponding discount within a
defined time period. The object is to kill nasty viruses, with each
virus killed earning some points. There are also bonuses to find on each
level that will bring either additional points or some additional time.
Once a player has won the first discount code he or she is then eligible
to save this code (to be used towards purchases) and to continue to
play, attempting to earn more valuable discount codes.
Upon winning any of the discount codes, a player may apply it toward the
purchase of any Kaspersky Labs software for Home or Linux Users in the
Kaspersky Labs Internet-Store.
Detailed terms for this game can be found on the company site.
A network version of "Virus Hunter" will be available soon.

Antivirus software is a good choice to scan your system for possible viruses,
however no virus scanner is 100% effective as manufactures cannot keep up with
the rapid change of viruses that happens daily.
Be sure to update yours regularly.
