The Biggest PC Annoyances
<http://www.pcworld.com/features/article/0,aid,103763,tk,dnWknd,00.asp>
The PC World site has an EXTREMELY useful guide to solving some of the worst
PC annoyances.
The very first item alone justifies a visit.
It shows how, when filing in web forms, you can prevent all your entered
data being blanked out if you need to hit the "back" button on your browser.

The article features many other equally useful tips to overcome common
peeves.

FreeSnap 1.2 free
http://blueonion.home.att.net/freesnap.html
Windows NT/2000/XP
Ever try to size a window so it just touches the edge of the screen?
It's tedious (at least for me).
FreeSnap allows you to instantly size any window edge to the corresponding
screen edge.
Want that window to touch the right edge of the screen?
Press and hold the windows key and press the right arrow.
It's just that simple.
The number-pad keys work as well, regardless of the NumLock state.

CacheMonitor II for Internet Explorer ~ free
http://www.mindspring.com/~dpoch/enigmatic/cachemonitor2.html
CacheMonitor is used for tracking Internet cache changes.
It displays the contents of the entire cache in a scrollable, sortable
multi-column list window and displays changes to the cached files in the
"Status" column.

To run the program, go to the directory you have downloaded it to and
double-click on its icon.
No installation is necessary. (To uninstall it, simply delete it.)

When started, it automatically does an initial scan of the cache. This
version currently does not automatically update the cache listing like the
original console display version of CacheMonitor. (A future version may have
a setting for this.) To update the listing (after you have browsed a few web
pages), go to the "Action" menu and select "Scan Cache". Any changes that
occured in the cache will be marked in the "Status" column. You can sort the
listing by different criteria by clicking on the column headers. (Just like
in Windows Explorer's detail view.)

When CacheMonitor finds files that have been deleted, it lets you know by
displaying "Deleted" in the "Status" column. If you re-scan the cache for
changes repeatedly while web browsing, the deletions displayed continue to
build up, and can make the listing seem cluttered after a while. To remove
these files from the display that no longer exist, selection "Remove
Deletions" from the "Action" menu.

Max 2 game ~free
http://www.max.k7.pl/
Max 2 is an extended 2D platform game. To play this you need a lot of
dexterity and a small dose of logical thinking ability. Max 2 is a succesor
to the Max 1. Game has few characteristic features from it's precursor: goal
is really easy - just kill all the enemies and get to next level :). But of
course there's more handicaps than only enemies: you can find moving
platforms, electric platforms (which can kill Max on contact) and many more.
One of the most important things in this game is collecting money (which
usually look like a pack of banknotes). You need to collect lots of money to
get bonuses, secret levels access, and to complete game :). The game isn't
so short, it has 30 levels in the main game, and six bosses, which will be

Startman ~ Freeware
http://www.forrestandassociates.co.uk/pcforrest/startman_v1.html
Windows 95/98/SE/Me/NT4/2000/XP

StartMan is a Startup Manager, designed to take control of all
those pesky programs and background services that load and run at
logon - most of which you probably don't need. As well as
providing the usual trouble-shooting options to enable or disable
startups, StartMan also permits the removal of startups.

Duplicate Detection and Removal, a unique feature of StartMan,
can be configured to remove all duplicates automatically, with or
without prompting.

Orphan Detection and Removal. As above, for orphaned startups.

Executable Detection and Removal. As above, for executables.

Includes a full range of sorting options to make it easier to
locate a specific startup - by name, by filename - even by
command line parameter!

Never Save Downloaded Files or Email Attachments Files to Your Desktop

When downloading files of any kind, especially through your
browser, never save them directly to your desktop. Likewise, ZIP
files should never be extracted or dragged out of the zip archive
directly on to the
desktop.

Some .EXE files are self-extracting compressed files. If such a
file is saved to the desktop and the file is "unzipped", all the
files may extract onto the desktop, creating a nightmare of
confusion for you. Some self-extracting files may give you the
option of deciding what folder to extract into. You should always
try to extract into a new folder to avoid desktop chaos.

Antivirus software is a good choice to scan your system for possible viruses,
however no virus scanner is 100% effective as manufactures cannot keep up with
the rapid change of viruses that happens daily.
