Age of Mythology ~ free Demo
http://www.microsoft.com/games/ageofmythology/greek_home.asp
Age of Mythology is now in stores!
And now, you can give the game a try before you buy by downloading and
playing the Age of Mythology trial version.
In the trial version you can play one of the nine civilizations featured in
the retail version and advance through the third age on two random maps, or
play through five scenarios in the single-player campaign.
From Ensemble Studios, the creators of Age of Empires and Age of Kings,
comes Age of Mythology, a game that transports players to a time when heroes
did battle with monsters of legend and the gods intervened in the affairs of
mortal men.
Taking on the role of one of nine ancient civilizations, players guide their
people to greatness by commanding all aspects of their empire: gathering
resources, raising massive armies, waging war against enemies, establishing
profitable trade routes, building new settlements, enhancing production or
military might with improvements, exploring new frontiers, and advancing
through four distinct ages.

SpywareBlaster
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/spywareblaster.html
"SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for spyware - it prevents it from
ever being installed.
How? By setting a "kill bit" for the CLSIDs of spyware ActiveX controls, it
prevents the installation of any of them from a webpage. You can run
Internet Explorer with Active-X enabled, but you will never even get a
"Yes/No" box popped up, asking you to install a spyware Active-X control
(Internet Explorer will never download or run it!). All other Active-X
controls or plug-ins will work fine.
The SpywareBlaster database contains information on these known spyware
Active-X controls. Make sure you run the Check For Updates feature
frequently to get the latest database! (And make sure you check the new
items to protect your system against them!)
As a side benefit, setting this "kill bit" will also prevent the spyware
Active-X from running, in many cases, if it is already installed on your
system.*"

MODBOOT
http://www.nu2.nu/bootdisk/modboot/
MODBOOT is modular boot disk.
All programs and files are placed in modules.
Adding functionally to your disk is as simple as copying one file (module)
to the correct folder.
An example: to add Dos mouse support to your MODBOOT disk you just copy the
module called "mouse.cab" to the "\level1" folder on your boot disk.
All MODBOOT modules are packed using cabinet (.cab) files so a MODBOOT disk
can hold as much data as possible. To expand a .cab file you simply put it
in the right folder and modboot will unpack it for you. When the .cab file
has an "\autorun.bat" modboot will automatically execute it.

Kids on the Internet
Before you even think about letting your kids use the Internet,
you must set some rules for them and make sure they understand
them. Here are a few of the basics:
Never agree to meet someone in person or call them on the phone
without asking a parent first.
Never give out your last name, address, phone number, Social
Security number, or the name of your school
without asking a parent first.
Never share your login password, even with your best friend.
If someone tells you not to tell your parents about them, tell
your parents right away!
If you see anything that makes you feel scared or uncomfortable
(even if you just aren't sure), ask a parent or teacher.
Ask your kids to give you a tour of the Internet.
You can find out a great deal by seeing it through their eyes.

Desktop Manager V ~ free
http://www3.nf.sympatico.ca/byronm/dm.html
Desktop Manager is a virtual desktop program and Windows shell. A virtual
desktop program gives you more work space, you use a control of some kind
and you switch to another virtual screen where you can run different
applications. So, instead of hunting for windows behind other windows on one
cramped screen you can keep them separate and switch to them when you need
to work with them. A Windows shell is what you see on the desktop, the
interface for interacting with the system, it includes the icons, folders,
the taskbar, etc. Desktop Manager is what you make of it, these are your
options:
You can just use the main executable by itself for a virtual desktop program
with each desktop having it?s own display mode, colours, and wallpaper.
You can use the modules to extend the functionality of Desktop Manager
(refered to from here on as DM) to add more preferences and functionality,
including the ability to have a hot bar of your most frequently used icons
in a strip to the right of your desktop, keep an eye on your ram usage and
check your email.
Finally, you can replace Explorer with DM as your Windows shell. In the
Extras part of the archive are special modules that provide extra
functionality for this purpose. Needless to say, this is still experimental
in nature, there is little to no documentation for this kind of thing
available to programmers.

Mike's Friday Tip;
Installing a Win XP Pro or Home Upgrade CD without a Previous OS installed
Put the instalation CD in the CD rom, and begin the windows install as if it
was the full version.
Dduring the install you will be prompted for a previous operating system.
Now put your old operating system CD in the drive and browse to the I386
folder (for Windows NT or 2000), WIN9X folder (for Windows ME), or WIN98
folder (for Windows 98).
Click ok, the windows upgrade will confirm this is a full version, then
replace the upgrade CD and continue with the XP upgrade.

Antivirus software is a good choice to scan your system for possible viruses,
however no virus scanner is 100% effective as manufactures cannot keep up with
the rapid change of viruses that happens daily.
Be sure to update yours regularly.
