"iWON" Means You Lose?
<http://abcnews.go.com/sections/scitech/TechTV/techtv_iwonspyware021023.html>
The "iWON" site aggressively promotes itself through extreme giveaways--
- currently $10,000 every weekday, with a shot at a $25million prize.
That kind of hyper-aggressive giveaway always makes me go "Hmmmm..." but
I had no specific information about iWon. That is, until reader Gerry
Boyd sent a heads-up about news reports that states "Software at iWon
Web Site Tracks Users Even After Removal."

PC-Timer
http://www.pctimer.com/
PC-Timer allows you to control WHO uses WHAT programs for HOW long.
Great as an internet timer and parental control.
Time, limit, or block any programs on your computer or the whole computer
itself.
PC-Timer is a simple and effective suite of programs that installs on any PC
running Windows 95/98 or ME.
You decide which programs to monitor and how much time per day each user
should have for them. You simply "bank" the
time for every user you want to control. It's easy!
Each user will log on to the computer with their own name and unique
password. PC-Timer "counts down" time spent in the programs you specified
for each user at the computer. When they have run out of time for that
program, they are simply prompted to save their work and log off.
PC-Timer will provide 3 chances to complete your work or save your game
before shutting the program down. And, our exclusive "Work-Safe" design will
even allow you to save a download if it exceeds your time budget, or save
your work if you forget and go to lunch while in a timed program.

Remove Arrows From shortcuts
Over the years, We have had dozens of people ask us how to remove
the small arrow that designates that an icon is a shortcut to a
regular icon. A simple System Registry edit turns off the arrows
on shortcuts.
This tip works with all versions of Windows, so far as I know.
1. Start the System Registry Editor by opening the Start menu,
choosing Run, typing "regedit," and pressing Enter.
2. Navigate through HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT until you find the
"lnkfile" entry.
3. Click to select "lnkfile" on the left pane, then select and
delete the "IsShortcut" item on the right pane.
4. You will probably have to restart Windows. You may find that
logging off and back on works.
5. To reverse the process, navigate to the same location in the
System Registry Editor (regedit). With "lnkfile" selected,
right-click any blank area of the right pane. Choose New > String
Value. Name the new entry "IsShortcut" (without the quotation
marks) and close RegEdit. Again, you may have to restart or log
off and back on.

Remember: Before making Any registry change either suggested by
us or anyone else, Backup your registry! One wrong move in the
registry could render windows inoperable! With a current backup
you can restore your registry to its previous condition before
you made the change. Backing up is a simple procedure that takes
seconds and can save you hours of work later if you make a
mistake.

Antivirus software is a good choice to scan your system for possible viruses,
however no virus scanner is 100% effective as manufactures cannot keep up with
the rapid change of viruses that happens daily.
Be sure to update yours regularly.
