Winsonar 2002~ free
http://digilander.libero.it/zancart/winsonar2002/odyframe.htm
Windows 95\98, Me, XP
Winsonar 2002 is a program specifically designed for process monitoring
purposes: it detectes new processes that permanently install into memory
while system is working. Windows (Tm) has a built-in task monitor, but the
user will not be prompted for new-installed tasks and even using the task
monitor he won't able to distinguish normally running modules from new-added
ones. The basic idea is that if the user could know a new program
permanently installed into memory, he could readily scan it using an updated
antivirus program: viruses couldn't really hide for a long time before being
detected.

Extreme Reinstall Win 98 ~ by Mike Baynes
This technique should be used if all other methods fail.
Try to backup all data before reformating.
If you cannot seem to resolve your problems with standard troubleshooting
procedures you man need to go to 'Extremes', and do a complete* install.
Uninstall all the drivers for all extra cards ( from Control Panel, Device
Manager), sound, modem, CDR if it is in addition to the CD Rom, and extra
hard drives if you have them.
Shutdown, and remove or unplug all the 'extra devices'.
Reformat, reinstall Windows, run scandisc, run defrag.
Try running it without anything else plugged in.
If it works ok then start adding devices one at a time, using the computer
for a while after replacing each device.
Then with each reinstall of device or software reboot 2 times, then run
scandisc, run defrag.
When the computer runs OK with the devices added back then start
reinstalling application and programs.
One at a time with test runs, including shutdown and reboot 2 times in
between.
This will be a very slow process but it may allow you to determine if there
is a device, application, or program which causes the problem.

Museum of Hoaxes
http://www.museumofhoaxes.com/
We have all seen our share of Email hoaxes, but since email
hasn't been around all that long we may have missed out on other
more prominent hoaxes! Were they real or a hoax ? There was no
email to spread it around at the time so how would the Hoax
information spread itself ?
Maybe this site is a Hoax in itself?
A hoax is a deceptive act or scheme that plays upon the credulity
of others. Fooling one person out of $100 does not count as a
hoax; fooling a thousand people out of $100 just might. Be sure
to read the information on "What is a Hoax"
(http://www.museumofhoaxes.com/what.html). The author makes a
fine distinction between hoaxes and urban myths but mainly
confines his site to the former. Take a moment to check out the
"Gullibility Test".

When Good Icons Go Bad
Use Windows long enough, and you will probably run into a
situation where an icon on your desktop doesn't work the way it's
supposed to. You double-click it but nothing happens or, more
likely, you see an error message.
Most icons on the Windows desktop are shortcuts to other files,
which means they do little more than point Windows in the right
direction. The file that the shortcut icon points to is called
the target. Many (but not all) shortcut icons have a little
curving arrow on them.
Broken shortcuts can be fixed by using several different methods:
* Double click on the Icon and Windows (should) tries to conduct
a search for the target, and if it is located, the shortcut is
automatically revised.
* You can manually revise the shortcut by right-clicking the icon
and choosing Properties. If you know the correct file path for
the target, type it in the Target field and click OK.
* Get rid of the shortcut, especially if it points to a file that
has been deleted or a program you have uninstalled. You can
safely delete shortcut icons without impacting the file or
program they point to.

The Big Myth
http://www.bigmyth.com/2_eng_myths.htm
How do people from different cultures view themselves, the world and their
origins?
http://www.bigmyth.com/2_eng_myths.htm
The Big Myth is a new experimental learning module designed for use in
European primary school classrooms. It is a sociology textbook for the
comparative study of world creation mythology. The myths are told using
Flash animation and are accompanied by an overview of the culture, the
pantheon of the gods and a series of exercises based on that culture.
The Big Myth combines the internet and Flash animation as a presentational
medium with a highly progressive group learning method known as complex
instruction. Teachers are advised to start in the teacher's section for more
complete instructions. The Big Myth consists of the Mythology section, Links
and Bibliography for further research, a Write Your Own Creation Myth
section for students, the Teacher's Guide and a Discussion Forum where an
off-line debate is held over the material.

UninstallAbility ~ free
http://www.aurelitec.com/software/uability/index.htm
UninstallAbility ensures that you will always be able to uninstall
unnecessary or unwanted programs from your computer.
In Windows you can uninstall programs by selecting Start -> Settings ->
Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs.
Windows keeps information about the programs that can be uninstalled from
your computer in an uninstall list in the registry. As any program or
anybody with a registry editor has access to this uninstall list, the list
may become corrupted or even destroyed. In this case you may no longer be
able to uninstall programs from your computer! UninstallAbility maintains
backup copies of this list and of all uninstall information and allows you
to easily restore it if necessary. UninstallAbility can also help you when a
program you want to uninstall has disappeared from the uninstall list, but
not from your computer. UninstallAbility can restore it from a backup copy
so that you can remove it from your computer.

Unpatched IE security holes
http://www.pivx.com/larholm/unpatched/
Please note: this site will work in any browser and on any device, however
will look much nicer on CSS-compatible browsers. If you are using a browser
that supports CSS, please wait while the CSS file loads and this message
will disappear.
If you wish to enjoy the web to the fullest, please upgrade to a
standards-compatible browser.
Why this page ?
This page was made public to put pressure on Microsoft, in the hope that
they may patch the listed security holes.
Vulnerabilities listed on this page work (among others) with the latest
versions of Internet Explorer, with all patches installed.
Until proper patches have been provided, the only fix is to disable
scripting.
This page is, and always will be, a work in progress.
This is not a definitive list of vulnerabilities.
++ There is more on the web site.

Antivirus software is a good choice to scan your system for possible viruses,
however no virus scanner is 100% effective as manufactures cannot keep up with
the rapid change of viruses that happens daily.
