Today in History
http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/today/jul04.html
On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress unanimously
adopted the Declaration of Independence.
The Constitution provides the legal and governmental
framework for the United States, however, the Declaration,
with its eloquent assertion "all Men are created equal," is
equally beloved by the American people.

Lindows Discussion
Hi John,
the Lindows OS is still beta, I have been receiving their promo
material since it was first announced around a year ago.
I was hoping to get a free copy to evaluate but they had enough
pay testers, and my circulation is not sufficient for them to care
what I write.
The only reason that Walmart computers will work with it is they
are manufactured to Lindows specs, that is what he explaind in his
newletter. http://lindows.com/mm
"The difference is the Walmart computers are certified, ensuring
that all components work elegantly with LindowsOS. That's much
different than offering a software program that will work on any
computer in the world - that's very difficult. It's the difference
between making a single pair of shoes for a known foot size versus
opening a shoe store with every style of shoe for every size foot.
The first one is easy, the second one is a much bigger job."
Which means that all the hardware is Lindows compatible, something
that is not possible with an upgrade version.
That is why they are taking so long to get the OS mainstream.
If you sign up for their test program you get the OS beta, and
full upgrades to future versions, and software, which will be open
source.
At least that is the way I read it.<g>
As far as OS, I think Linux will be the best way to go as far as
free OS go they have a lot more currently availible.

SpyBot-Search & Destroy free~donationware
http://patrick.kolla.de/software/spybotsd/navi.en.html
SpyBot-S&D searches your harddisk for so-called spy- or adbots;
little modules that are responsible for the ads many programs
show. But many of these modules also transmit information
about your surfing behaviour and more to the net.
If SpyBot-S&D finds such modules, it can remove them - or replace
them with empty dummies in case their host won't work any more
with its bot removed. In most cases, the host software still runs
after removing the bot.
For a list of 'supported' bots see the feature lists below.
Spybot-S&D works with an easy interface that allows updates by
just replacing a file of about 1k size. Those updates come by
my software mailinglist.
Another feature of Spybot S&D is the removal of usage tracks,
which makes it more complicated for unknown spybots to transmit
useful data. The list of last visited websites, opened files, started
programs, cookies, all that and more can be cleaned. Supported
are the three mahjor browsers Internet Explorer,
Netscape Communicator and Opera.
Last but not least Spybot-S&D contains some routines to find
and correct invalid entries into the registry.
Thanks to; Christy

Mouseless Dialog Boxes part 2
In yesterdays tip we explained how to move through dialog box
tabs using the keyboard. Here are a few more tricks for
navigating dialog boxes without the mouse. To highlight different
areas of a dialog box, press the Tab key (or Shift-Tab to move
backward). To display drop-down menus, use the Alt-Up Arrow and
Alt-Down Arrow. To mark empty check boxes, just press the
spacebar. And press Enter at any time to select the highlighted
areas.
