Preinstalled Mandrake Linux PCs go live at Walmart
By John Lettice
http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/4/26192.html
Newsforge notes that Mandrake Linux PCs finally went on
sale at Walmart.com over the weekend. Prices range from
$391 for a 900MHz Duron machine to $648 for a 2GHz
Pentium 4 with CD-RW.
The machines are Microtel, which is also supplying Walmart
with 'naked' PCs ("Perfect if you already have a licensed copy
of Windows," says Walmart chirpily, undoing years of Redmond
propaganda) and Lindows machines. The nearest spec naked
PC to the 2GHz Mandrake one costs $599, so Mandrakesoft
must be making some money out of the deal, while a similar
Lindows machine is, er, $599.

How to Disable the Windows Media Player Spyware
Did you know that your Windows Media Player is spying
on you? That's right! And you don't even have to
install the latest Windows Media Player security patch
The default settings of the WMP allow it to communicate
with the Microsoft mothership and other Web sites and
report on the songs you play, those you don't play, and
what you had for breakfast (not sure about that last one).
If you're not interested in the WMP reconnoitering your
personal life, then turn off the Spyware! Here's how:
1) Open the Windows Media Player
2) Click the Tools menu and then click the Options command
3) Remove the checkmark from the Allow Internet sites to
uniquely identify your Player checkbox
4) Click Apply and then click OK
5) Close the WMP and then open it again.

Billabong Racers ~ free
http://gamehippo.com/category/new_title_1.shtml
Billabong Racers is neat car racing game with funny animal
characters as drivers. Before you can partake in the actual
race, you need to pass the driving school. The competition
consists of 4 tracks and 3 different classes (engine size).
You will triumph if you manage to be amongst the top4 cars
and collect 20 shrooms in each race. It's noteworthy that
your car is equipped with a weapon! Unfortunately the
computer-generated cars are lousy drivers and they don't
provide much competitive excitement.

Tina's FrontPage Tips, by Tina Clarke
Show or hide colour coding of HTML
When you edit a page using the HTML tab in
Page view, Microsoft FrontPage automatically
colour codes HTML to distinguish between tags,
attributes, and values, as well as comments and
scripts.
To show colour coding, right-click anywhere in
the HTML tab, and then click Show Colour
Coding on the shortcut menu.
To hide colour coding once the Show Colour
Coding command is checked, click Show Colour
Coding to clear the check mark.
TIP: If you want to modify which colours
FrontPage uses to display HTML, click Page
Options on the Tools menu, click the Colour
Coding tab, and then select the colours you
want to use.

Yesterdayland Arcade
http://www.yesterdayland.com/popopedia/shows/categories/arcade/
A site full of vintage games.
The 70s
The era of the video arcade game is ushered in with Computer Space
in 1971, but few really notice. Pong rights that wrong the
following year, and a phenomenon is born. Games like Tank, Gun
Fight, Breakout and Sea Wolf prove that video games are no flash
in the pan, but Space Invaders takes the craze to a galactic new
level. Meanwhile, in the non-video world, a hockey fan turns his
passion into a year-round sport with Air Hockey, and Whac-a-Mole
lets players work out life's little frustrations with a padded
mallet. The Who's "Pinball Wizard" launches a new pinball craze,
as celebrities from The Harlem Globetrotters to KISS grace the
machines' backglass and playfields. But by the end of the decade,
video is clearly the new king, and Asteroids wears the crown.

Quick add to the Startmenu
If you have a shortcut on your desktop that you'd like to get off
your desktop and add to your Programs menu in a hurry, you can
drag and drop it to the Programs menu directly. Just grab (drag)
it, hold it over the Start button until it opens, then go to
programs, and drop the shortcut into in the Programs menu (or any
other menu/folder in your programs menu). This will create a copy
in the Programs menu, so your original icon is still on the
desktop that you can delete later.
Note: This tip does not completely work for win95. Win95 users
can still put the icon in the startmenu but not to a specific
folder.

Antivirus software is a good choice to scan your system for possible viruses,
however no virus scanner is 100% effective as manufactures cannot keep up with
the rapid change of viruses that happens daily.
