Local Access: IT Takes a Village ~ by Manny Frishberg
http://www.wired.com/news/culture/0,1284,52690,00.html
SEATTLE -- Wearing a traditional feathered headdress and using a
Power Point presentation, a leader of the Ashaninka Indian tribe
from central Peru described how his village created a presence on
the Internet.
Mino, also known by his Spanish name Eusebio Castro, described the
situation faced by the indigenous people living in the Perene
River Valley at the mouth of the Amazon jungle. More than 50
Indian villages exist in isolated patches throughout the valley,
removed from one another and from the coastal cities where
political and economic power are centralized.

Personal firewalls Support Comparison
http://www.pcflank.com/art25.htm
We have already discussed the essential features of today's
personal
firewalls. If a firewall protects against all leak tests, makes
your
user's computer invisible to others on the Internet and provides
several privacy features this firewall is worth using. But there
is yet
another factor all users should consider when choosing a firewall
as well as any other software.
This factor is a product Support level.
So PC Flank decided to compare how prompt support answers
are and how well support specialists solve users problems.
We have registered several email accounts at free mail servers to
spoof the real source and then tried to get an answer on the
following question:
"Hello, after I installed your firewall my web-browser cannot
connect to web-sites.
But when I exit the firewall my browser is able to connect.
What settings should I change to solve the problems?"

RUMORS AND MISINFORMATION EXPOSED
http://lockdowncorp.com/mis-information/
FIREWALLS
There are no exact technical terms compiled into a list of rules
for what
is and what is not a firewall at this time. New technology and
words
used on the Internet such as Stealth, Stealthed, Firewalll, Drone,
R.A.T,
Key Logger, Tunneling and many others are not yet fully defined
in
dictionary terms. The only thing that we can do, is to glean
information
from The Free Online Dictionary Of Computing FOLDOC or use some
other popular Dictionary Links such as: www.dictionary.com
Computer Science:
"Any of a number of security schemes that prevent unauthorized
users from gaining access to a computer network or that monitor
transfers of information to and from the
network."
Though some would like to make their own numbered list of criteria
that a firewall must have, there is no such list adopted by any
official
principality at this time.
LockDown would not be considered a firewall, if you were to define
it
as to mean that it would block port connections made to your
computer,
or to keep users inside your network from going out to other
networks.
Even though these types of firewalls and firewall programs have
their
use, they also tend to give computer users a false sense of
security.

Freeware
Win95/98
Now browsing multiple Web sites at once is a cinch. A labeled tab
appears at the bottom of the main window for each new site you
open. There is also a quick link to a local weather report and
"carrots," which are rather like
bookmarks. The first quick launch icon is the included help
file.

BigMosaic 3.0 free
http://www.lenagames.com/bm_start.htm
Win95/98/ME/NT/2000,
BigMosaic is a logic game similar to jigsaw puzzles.
The goal is to make up two mosaic pictures from rectangular
two-sided
tiles. You can rotate tiles, turn them upside down and change over
any
two tiles.
You are able to assemble both pictures separately or mix their
tiles to make a task more difficult.
To make it even more difficult, you can choose the mode when
you see only the active tile and the tiles already solved.
The tiles size and shape depend on your wish
(number of tiles is up to 1600).
The game can be saved.
After registration, you will gain access to more than 90 puzzles
made of professional photos or famous paintings.
Also you will get the MosMake utility for making your own puzzles.

Tina's FrontPage Tips, by Tina Clarke
Space Saver
When you create blocks or items of text (such as
bullet-points with the <LI> tag) and want a new font to
highlight your list, use only one <FONT> tag to style the
entire list. If you use separate <FONT> tags for each
bullet-point, many browsers will add unwanted space
between the items.
