Spammers Beware: New Bill Seeks Criminal Enforcement
http://www.secadministrator.com/articles/index.cfm?articleid=3D25291
The Senate Commerce Committee approved Bill S.630 "Controlling the
Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act of 2001," or
the "CAN SPAM Act of 2001" for short. The CAN-SPAM act is designed
to protect consumers and businesses from unsolicited commercial email
(UCE) or spam and to levy fines and allow civil and criminal actions
against spammers.

Last Standing Column At WTC Site Comes Down
http://www.cnn.com/2002/US/05/28/rec.ground.zero.ap/index.html
NEW YORK (AP) -- The last steel beam left standing at the World
Trade Center site was cut down Tuesday evening in the first of a
series of ceremonies marking the end of the sorrowful,
8 1/2-month cleanup.

The 30-foot column survived when the twin towers collapsed into a
mountain of 1.8 million tons of rubble September 11. For months it
was covered by debris, but as the pile shrank the column was revealed,
still standing where it was erected when the south tower was built
three decades ago.

During the last few months, workers topped it with a flag and covered
the sides with spray-painted messages and photographs of victims.

"It means a lot to people -- it's like a flag, which is a piece of cloth,
but it represents our country and an idea. The idea of the beam is
our strength, our resilience," said Richard Streeter, who has operated
an excavator at the site since September 12.

Detection of a File Virus
http://www.net-security.org/virus_news.php?id=3D19
Article provided by Kaspersky Lab.

As already mentioned, viruses are divided into resident and non-resident.
Resident viruses found so far stood out for their much greater craftiness
and sophistication in comparison with non-resident. Therefore, we shall
discuss the simplest case for starters ~ attack of an unknown
non-resident virus. Such a virus activates itself upon starting of any
infected programs, does all it has to, passes control to the host
program and afterwards (unlike resident viruses) does not interfere
with its work. To detect such a virus, it is necessary to compare file
size on disks and in backup copies (the reminder about the
importance of keeping such copies has already become commonplace).
If this doesn't help, you should do a byte comparison of distribution
copies with the working copies you use. At the present, there are
many such programs, the simplest of them (COMP utility) can be
found in DOS.

email viruses will be eliminated

FOREVER

ode to a virus
when viruses were unstoppable
we lived in fear,
we all had anti-virus but it was clear,
that it only stopped all the bugs it knew,
he thought he was safe, are you?

There are 41 days until the final battle in the war against viruses
a revolutionary new technology has been developed by a UK
company to provide absolute protection against email viruses,
on all email platforms.

it works with any email application or server and can protect
any device, including gprs and g3 email enabled mobiles.

it does not rely upon any current anti-virus techniques, is simple,
foolproof and requires no updates or maintenance - it just works.

this technology will be released to the business and consumer market
on 7th July 2002
"an anti virus and anti spam service that guarantees that an email
user will never send or receive an email virus again or receive
unwanted unsolicited email again. Patented GlassWall technology
puts the trust back into email for both home and business email
users alike."

DBXtract Version 3.70 Updated 02/26/02 freeware
http://chattanooga.net/~scochran/DBXtract.htm
OE5 has a proprietary binary format that makes archiving individual
messages difficult. In addition, a number of people have indicated
that their message folders have become corrupted and OE can not
read them. Consequently, they have lost all the messages in that folder.

DBXtract.exe extracts all mail and news messages from individual
dbx files. After extracting the messages one can drag them from a
Windows Explorer folder into an Outlook Express mail folder.

It is a 64 Kbyte program It requires the existence of the VB6
runtime dll, msvbvm60.dll. If you do not have that in your
windows\system (or system32 for NT / 2000) directory,
you can download it directly from Microsoft.

The program runs in Win9x, WinMe, NT, Win 2000, and WinXP.

Close to Word

If you working closely with Microsoft Word, or other Office
programs, don't simply drag the text into FrontPage - it
carries over the formatting, which is a pain to get rid of.
To tidy it up, press Ctrl-space or Ctrl-Shift-Z, or Format |
Remove Formatting which removes all previous formatting. You
can also paste the content into Notepad first the cut and
paste to FrontPage. Alternatively Microsoft has a Add-on
that will also do the job.

Saving Your Finds
In the last couple of tips, we discussed some of the search
options available to you from the Find dialog box. (To open this
box, select Start, Find, Files Or Folders; or right-click any
folder or drive and select Find.) For example, you can search by
file type and date last accessed, or by some text that you know
appears in the document.

Just complete a search that uses multiple criteria? Before
closing the Find dialog box, stop and think--Will I need to
conduct this search again? If the answer is yes, or even maybe,
save that search. That way, you can start the same find with a
couple of quick clicks.

With your search results displayed in the Find window (in other
words, once the search is complete), select File, Save Search.
Switch to the desktop, and you'll see a new icon titled,
"Files... something or other," based on the search criteria.
(Feel free to move this icon wherever you want--for example, into
a folder called Saved Searches.) The next time you need to
conduct the same search, simply double-click this icon, then
click Find Now.

A lot faster than filling in all those criteria by hand, eh? read
below to learn how about saving the results.

Want to save your search RESULTS along with the criteria? Before
you select File, Save Search, pull down the Options menu and
select Save Results. Now, selecting File, Save Search still
places a new icon on
the desktop--the difference is that when you double-click it,
both the original criteria and the results appear in the Find
dialog box.
