"Mira" Preview by Paul Thurrott

Extend the reach of Windows PCs throughout the home

During the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in early January 2002,
Microsoft unveiled two technologies--code-named Freestyle and
Mira--designed to extend the reach of Windows PCs from the office
into the far larger and more lucrative living room. The plan, launched
through the company's eHome Division, aims to leverage the power
and intelligence of the PC while offering simplicity and convenience
for consumers.

Mira, a new generation of smart screens will "remote" the desktop
experience to anywhere in the home. I was able to spend more time
with various Mira devices at the Windows Hardware Engineering
Conference (WinHEC) 2002 in Seattle this April, and this report has
been updated with new photos and observations from that event.

SNIP

Conclusions
Mira software will ship by the end of the year as part of Windows XP
Service Pack 1 (SP1, check out my SP1 FAQ for more information),
an interim release that will add numerous new features and bug fixes.
Its initial success will depend largely on the price: If Microsoft's
hardware partners can sell 8 and 10 inch second displays for a couple
of hundreds bucks, these things are going to take off quickly.
But I don't see anyone shelling out $1000 for a luggable 15 inch display.

Tina's FrontPage Tips, by Tina Clarke

What's in a rename?

If, for any reason, you need to change the name of a file or
folder on your Web site, FrontPage will automatically update
all the file's associated hyperlinks. You can rename a file
in several ways, but it's easiest to follow these steps:

1. In the Folders, All Files, or Navigation View, click the
filename to select it and then right click and choose
'rename'.

A box appears around the filename, and the filename is
highlighted.

2. Type a new name.

Make sure to keep the same three-letter extension so that
the Explorer knows what kind of file you're renaming, though
you can change this as well make sure it is one that
FrontPage supports. e.g. .htm .asp

3. Click away from the box

If the file contains associated links, the Rename dialog box
appears, asking if you'd like to update the links to reflect
the new name.

4. Click Yes.

The dialog box will close and FrontPage automatically
updates the links

AI RoboForm
Freeware
http://www.roboform.com/
Windows 95, 98, NT, Me,  2K, XP.

Push one "Fill Forms" button on IE toolbar and all forms at any
Web page are filled out. No more dragging and dropping field
values, AI RoboForm simply reads the form, like you do, and puts
your field values into the form fields that it recognizes. The
program works locally on your machine, so it is also really fast.

~~~~~~~
Minimizing
Whenever a program is minimized (meaning you clicked the square
button with the small dash at the bottom of the button), even
though you cannot see the program currently running, it may still
be doing things in the background. So, if you have several
windows minimized, this will greatly slow down your computer.
If you're not currently using one/some of these programs, then
completely close the programs with the exception of
antivirus/firewall software. Be sure to save any work you may
have done before you close out.
Antivirus software is a good choice to scan your system for possible
viruses, however no virus scanner is 100% effective as manufactures
cannot keep up with the rapid change of viruses that happens daily.
Be sure to update yours regularly.
