Beginner Tip: Parts Is Parts ~ Michael Vincent

Each part of Windows' windows has a name. The list at the
top of each window (usually starts with File, Edit, etc) is
called the Control Menu. The name at the top of the window
is called the Title Bar. The three buttons at the top
right are the Minimize, Maximize, and Close buttons,
respectively. All the way to the right, you may have a
Vertical Scroll Bar, and at the bottom, a Horizontal Scroll
Bar. Each scroll bar has a Scroll Box, and at each end of
the scroll bar are Scroll Arrow Buttons. The window itself
is generally referred to as the Workspace and the edge of
the window is the Border. Now you know which part is
which.

IE-SPYAD
http://www.staff.uiuc.edu/~ehowes/resource.htm#IESPYAD
IE-SPYAD is a Registry file (IE-ADS.REG) that adds a long list of
known advertisers, marketers, and spyware pushers to the Restricted
sites zone of Internet Explorer. Once IE-ADS.REG is "merged" into your
Registry, most direct marketers and spyware pushers will not be able
to resort to their usual "tricks" (e.g., cookies, scripts, popups, et al)
in order to monitor and track your behavior while you surf the Net.

Please note that IE-SPYAD will not block banner ads in Internet Explorer.
What this Restricted sites list of known advertisers and spyware pushers
will do, however, is:

reduce the number of obnoxious script-based popups that clutter your
screen and force unwanted advertising on you;

block the cookies typically attached to banner ads and which are used to
monitor and track your travels around the Internet;

prevent the use of ActiveX, Java, and scripting -- active content
technologies that can be used to compromise your privacy and security;

protect you against auto-installing crapware from spyware pushers (e.g.,
BonziBuddy, Gator, Lop.com, et al) that can invade your system, monitor
your computer and Internet use, and trash your PC.
++
This Restricted sites list is based on info from the latest HOSTS file
of Stephen Martin (http://www.smartin-designs.com/).

Lindows OS
http://www.lindows.com/lindows_products_lindowsos.php
LindowsOS is a modern and affordable operating system for Intel
Pentium(R) and AMD Athlon(TM) based computers.
LindowsOS 1.0, due out in mid-2002, will have the unique ability to
run Linux(R) software titles as well as many popular Microsoft(R)
Windows(R) software titles giving computer owners and
organizations of all sizes new options on the desktop.

From FAQ's How do I install LindowsOS?

  Answer
  The LindowsOS Sneak Preview has two modes of installation.
You can do a "Friendly Install" which will install LindowsOS
alongside an existing Microsoft Windows=AE installation.
Using this option, you can select which operating system you
want to run each time you start your computer.
Your existing Windows=AE applications will be automatically
listed in the Windows=AE program menu under LindowsOS.

Or you can elect to completely erase your entire hard disk and
run only LindowsOS using the "Take over entire disk" installation
choice. You will still be able to run Windows=AE software titles even
if LindowsOS is the only operating system on your computer.
You will, of course, need to manually install the Windows=AE
programs you want to run using the typical installation process.

Currently, LindowsOS does not support installation onto NTFS
partitions but will install onto Fat32 formated partitions.
We currently support friendly install along side Win98,SE,ME.
WinXP is not currently supported but may work as long as it is not NTFS.

More drag and drop!
Have you ever grabbed something and started dragging it only to
find that your destination is obscured by an open window? Here's
a little trick that will help in these situations. Continue to
hold the item you're dragging, and move it over your system tray.
Keep it still for a second or two, and every open window
automatically minimizes,
leaving you an open desktop.

Once everything minimizes drag over to the icon of the
program/file that you originally wanted on the taskbar and hold
it there! The window you need will magically open waiting for
you to drop what you have been dragging around.

Antivirus software is a good choice to scan your system for possible
viruses, however no virus scanner is 100% effective as manufactures
cannot keep up with the rapid change of viruses that happens daily.
Be sure to update yours regularly.
