Kids Go Wild: Conservation Kids
http://wcs.org/7823
Of all the species that share the earth, imagine one in five gone in
the next decade. Some even estimate that 25,000 species might
disappear in the next year alone. Hard to believe, isn't it?

The truth is there are many animals threatened with extinction.
Rhinos and the jaguar. Elephants, the grizzly bear and brightly
colored macaws.
Did you know that there are fewer than 500 Siberian tigers left
in the wild? And in the African forest, perhaps no more than 600
mountain gorillas remain. Can you imagine our world without them,
seeing them only in picture books?

 We can't! And that's why the Wildlife Conservation Society has
worked for over a hundred years to understand and protect wild
animals and their habitats. And we have succeeded.
With the help of caring people like you, WCS has saved countless
species and created parks and reserves all around the world like
Amboseli National Park in Kenya and Alaska's Arctic National
Wildlife Refuge.

Join WCS's newest team and become a part of Conservation Kids.
You'll play a crucial role in the success of over 300 field projects
around the world and important initiatives here at our Bronx Zoo
headquarters. With your support and caring, we will succeed in
saving wildlife.

Cleaning CD's
This is being posted to help folks w/ cleaning/storing tips on CDs.

It is vital that a CD be in excellent shape, particularly if it is an
Installation CD.

There are some excellent CD cleaners available as mass market
discounters and o/l. Here's a dcent auto, battery-powered CD cleaner
w pads.  http://www.provantage.com/scripts/go.dll/-s/fc_fela2

Also, another tip I have found very useful. If you are wiping the CD
with a very soft, lint-free cloth (do NOT use any other kind,) make
sure that you wipe from the inside ring STRAIGHT OUTWARDS ON THE
RADIUS to the outer edge of the CD. Do NOT wipe in concentric
circles. ALWAYS wipe from the inside ring of the data surface side
in a straight line (the radius) to the outermost edge (circumference,)
then rotate the CD (on your fingertip, etc.) so that you can wipe the
new area.

Also, make sure the inside surface of the jewl case itself if kept
clean and dust-free.

Some more tips.

1) Never store your CDs where direct sunlight can get
to them.

2) Do not store within the "blowing range" of an HVAC ouput vent.

3) Invest in a rubber-lipped/sealable Master Case in which to store
your jewel cases. They do a better job of keeping things dust-free
than the plastic boxes which do not have the rubber seal.

4) Do NOT store your CDs near a wireless phone base unit or within
circa 20 ft of a microwave.

5) If you happen to have an electric fence outside, try to store your
CDs (indeed, put your PC and all peripherals!) on the wall farthest
away from the electric fence.

6) Observe sensible precautions in allowing young children to touch a
CD at all.

7) It's not generally a good idea, if your using multiple CDs in
succession, to stack the bare CDs on top of one another. It takes a
bit more time, but replace each CD in its jewel case after removing
from the drive.

SpeedFan 4.05 ~ freeware/donation ware
http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php
SpeedFan is a freeware program that monitors fan speeds,
temperatures and voltages in computers with hardware monitoring
chips. SpeedFan can even access S.M.A.R.T. info for those hards
disks that support this feature (almost all :-)) and show hard disk
temperatures too, if supported.
SpeedFan can even change the FSB on some motherboards.
At the lowest level, SpeedFan is an hardware monitoring software,
but its main feature is that it can control the speed of the fans
(depending on your sensor chip) according to the temperatures
inside your pc, thus reducing noise and power consumption.
Most Winbond sensors and ASUS AS99127F support fan speed
changing, as well as others from MYSON, ANALOG DEVICES,
NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTORS and ITE, but the motherboard
should make use of available pins. This means that if you have,
say, a W83782D on a BP6 then you're ok.
If you have a W83782D on some GigaByte's... you're not :-)
SpeedFan works fine with Win9x, WinME, WinNT, Win2k and WinXP.
SpeedFan can be minimized to the tray and is compatible with Motherboard=
 Monitor 5.

AN AFRICAN PARABLE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A long time ago a king in Africa had a friend who had a habit of
looking at every situation in a positive way. No matter what, he
would remark "Oh, this is good!"
One day the king and his friend were out hunting. The friend
would load king 's rifle, but this time he must have made a
mistake, for when the king fired, his thumb was blown off.
Never to be deterred, his friend remarked "Oh, this is good!"
"I'll teach you what is good," roared the king and threw him
into jail.
Perhaps a year later the king was hunting in an area he should
have stayed away from, because cannibals captured him, took him
to their village, and prepared to make a meal of him.
That's when they discovered that his thumb was missing. Being
superstitious, they never ate anyone who was less than whole.
So they untied the king and sent him on his way.
Upon his return home he felt great remorse for his treatment of
his friend. He immediately went to visit the jail to order his
release "You were right,"  he told his friend, "it was indeed a
good thing that my thumb was blown off."
He proceeded to tell him what had happened. "I am so very sorry
for sending you to jail. It was very bad for me to do this to
you."
"No," his friend corrected him, "it was good!"
"What do you mean, 'it was good', argued the king, and his
friend enlightened him.
"Had I NOT been in jail, I would have been with you on safari."
Perhaps this anecdote is to remind us that everything in life
has a purpose !
The Ultimate Program and Driver Install Guide
http://www.infopackets.com/freenewsarticles/install+guide.htm
 by Dennis Faas, infopackets editor ~  http://www.infopackets.com
 Downloading programs and drivers off the Internet  and installing them
 on your computer can get a little tricky, especially  if you don't know
 what to do after the file has been downloaded
 This guide provides Windows 95, 98, NT, ME, 2000, and XP users a
 methodical approach to program and driver  installation, without any
 techno jargon or fluff.  Although this article is a bit lengthy, it should
 be known that Steps 1 and 2 provide much of what is to know, while
 Step 3 reintroduces the familiar concepts with a few extra twists.
 With that said, let's get on with it!
Tina's FrontPage Tips, by Tina Clarke
Editing a Shared Border
At some point you may want to access the html of a shared
border, in order to do this the first time, do the
following:
First make sure you have the hidden folders box ticked.
Tools | Web settings | Advanced Tab | Make sure the 'Show
documents in hidden directories' box is ticked.  Press ok.
You will be asked to refresh the web.
Go to the Folders View and you will see a folder called
_borders double click to open and then you can click on the
borders htm files that you have in your web.  There will be
the border pages that you have enabled on your web through
Format | shared borders so if you only enabled the left
border the left.htm file will only be available to bring up.
You can then edit like a normal page.  If you want the
others to be available you must enable them through Format |
Shared Border and ticking the appropriate pages, then press
ok.  You must then save a page in your site that has them
enabled and refresh the web to bring them up.
Saving A Screen Picture
Suppose you need to include a picture of a particular Web site in
a newsletter or memo. There's no need to go to a lot of trouble.
All you have to do is press Alt + Print Screen. This will capture
the active screen and save it to the Windows Clipboard. Now, you
can run Paint or another graphics program and press Ctrl + V to
paste the picture into the paint program. Or, if you're currently
working on your newsletter, you can just paste the picture
directly into your word processor.
