Man takes sledgehammer to faulty PC
By John Leyden
http://theregus.com/content/54/24550.html
After returning a persistently faulty PC to a shop five times over three
months, a Wisconsin man snapped and took it apart with a
sledgehammer in front of shocked shoppers.
Gary Wilke (aka Mr. Sledgehammer), from Appleton, Wisconsin,
bought the $2,600 Gateway PC for his daughter in January.
During its short life, the PC had problems both with its hard
drive, and its sound system.
After taking computer to the shop in Appleton for a final time and
smashing it to smithereens, the 51-year old bid staff and other
customers good day before leaving, according to his own account.
Staff at the Gateway Country store tell a different story.
Wilke came out with a string of profanities as he pummelled his
PC, they say.
In any case, police from Grand Chute caught up with him and
charged him with disorderly conduct.
But Mr. Sledgehammer is unrepentant.

A trio of MS-Office security vulns
By Thomas C Greene in Washington
http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/4/24777.html
Researchers at GreyMagic Software have uncovered three novel=
vulnerabilities provided by Microsoft Office Web Components (OWC), which=
can override security settings in Internet Explorer.
First up, it's possible, using the spreadsheet component of OWC, to enable=
active scripting when the user has it disabled in IE.
"One of the features added to the spreadsheet component is the '=3DHOST()'=
formula, which returns a handle to the hosting environment.

FrontPage Tip
If you want to make sure your code is not changed in
any way the best way to 'keep' your code is to use
the html markup box. - usually used for scripts
Depending on what version of FrontPage your using
the place to find it is different.
FrontPage Express - Insert menu | HTML Markup
FrontPage 98 - Click the 'View Menu' and select the
'Advanced Toolbar' on there you will find the icon
'Insert HTML' or you can go to the 'Insert Menu' and
click 'FrontPage Component' and click 'Insert html'.
FrontPage 2000 - Insert Menu | Advanced | Html...
FrontPage 2002 - Insert Menu | Web Component |
click 'Advanced Controls' (in the left hand pane) and
then 'HTML' icon (in the right hand pane), click Finish.
First position your cursor where you want it to appear
in normal view. Next insert your script or code that you
don't wish to be changed into the box that pops up
and press OK.
When you have done this unless you have the
'show/hide' icon (shaped like a P - to make it appear
press the icon or use the keyboard. Control + Shift +
*) depressed you won't see the little yellow markers.
(small yellow box with <?> written on them). To
access the code again just double click this box and
the markup box will pop open and you can edit the
code. Using the 'show/hide' icon will also show you
paragraph marks and other formatting marks (similar
to F12 in WordPerfect)

Power Management
If you use a desktop computer, then you probably don't need
Power Management support. Mainly computers left on for more
than 24 hours and laptops use this option.
To disable this feature and save some CPU power, go to the
Control Panel and select the System Icon. Click the Device Driver
tab and double-click the System Devices. Towards the top, you
will see an item called Advanced Power Management Support;
double-click this.
In the General tab, make sure that the "Disable in this Profile"
is clicked. Click OK.

Antivirus software is a good choice to scan your system for possible
viruses, however no virus scanner is 100% effective as manufactures
cannot keep up with the rapid change of viruses that happens daily.
