Dear all,

Measles in india has high morbidity and mortality. More than 2/3rd of global
measles deaths occurs in india. This is mainly due to low coverage of 1st dose
and non avaialbility of 2nd opportunity in india except Delhi state.

CRS incidence are not very well known in india as no many studies are
avaialble. However, it is assumend to be very high as rubella vaccination is
not done except pediatric MMR in Delhi. Adolescent friendly health initiative
or school health scheme do offer some ooportunities.

Intorduction of MMR in states with low MCV1 coverage do poses a risk of age
shift phenomenon, thereby increasing risk of CRS. As a IAP, we should ask GoI
to take steps to urgently reduce measles mortality and introduce rubella
vaccine ( as MR/ MMR) in states having good immuniation coverage.
