Yes indeed it is, in many ways it leaves Itunes for absolute dead, the quality of audio and video out of VLC are a case in point, if you have a network like mine where Windows PC'S and Mac exist together then VLC is is a "Must Have" for all your music collection if you've been using things such as Winamp to play it with on your PC, just select a playlist on your network with VLC and away you go, completely compatible.
