[macvoiceover] Re: use of external drive when not backing up

Oh yes, Time Machine, once you let it start working, does indeed continue to update; otherwise timed backups wouldn't be there when you needed them. And it does run in the background. I'm not using it at the moment as I just use super-duper to do periodic backups but I did use Time Machine for a while. Somebody who uses it can probably explain to you what the default backup timing is etc. but I am thinking this is probably what you were experiencing.
