I could try to explain, but I think it will be much clearer if you research on google. Basically you need to tell your bittorrent program which port to use, and then open that port on your router (if you have a router). If your computer is directly connected to the internet without any routers or local networks, you shouldn't need to open any ports. If not, you will need to open them.
