[macvoiceover] the mac and shutting down

Hi all, ever since Sunday evening, maybe late Monday morning, I've had
a problem where the mac won't shut down right away, but I hear lots of
sounds from within the mac mini, and then about 2 or 3 minutes later,
it shuts down. I was instructed to go to the apple menu, and arrow
down to shut down, and then press enter, and it worked until Sunday
night, and the first time it didn't work, I held in the power button,
and then it shut down, but now, it seems, that every other time I start
the mac, I can't tell if voice over is started or not, and when I press
f5, it says voice over off, so I have to re-start voice over again.
What could be causing this, and how does one fix it? Also, in skype,
if I end up in the search for contacts edit box, I can't get out of it,
so what do I do, and if somebody has added me, I have no way of knowing
this, even if they are on line, and also, in mail, when first starting
it up, there's no automatic setting, as far as I know, unless you set
it up, and then change preferences later, so when setting up mail, when
you first start it for the first time, where is automatic? I don't
like a computer that makes decisions for me, and I wonder if there's
some setting in the mac where you can turn this off, because I don't
want it deciding what my user name is, or a catigory is, etcetera.
Maybe this is the mac, but if I didn't know better, I'd say this
machine has a mind of its' own.
