hi everybody and hi dona,
i folllow up the mails of dona and i think that she is the perfect
example of a mac switcher. if we could gather her mail we can write
one beautifull start up guide for anyone who comes from the other
part.
but it is not only this , i got to like her curiosity , her doubts
and her kindness. she never forgot to say thanx and we all saw that
some good problems have been risolved.
cris your idea to write some guide or some kind of faq for who comes
from windows is very, very good.
indeed i need it in italian as well.
i have gathered many usefull mail that i need to organise as soon as
i catch up with my work.
here i would like to add another idea.
i started up a web site in italian and i would like to translate
as many esperience as i can in a way to prove that mac can be used
by blind people. here we are only 3 or 4 and sometimes i go nuts
when i read the opinion of some specialist who never tried mac but
thinks it is not usable. i am not a tecnician and i don't speak
english very well but i think the only way to stop these specialists
is to make them read and hear our story. i have nothing against
windows but i really like mac.
it makes me smile every day. my web site is about audio tutorials
and i was inspired by i can do this thing.com and blind cool
tech.com. it should contain both short guides and podcasts .
be patient i am arriving , in this space i dedicated a page to mac
users. therefore please help me , writing off list your story or
esperience with voice over. i then will translate and publish it.
if we begin to show some facts perhaps some people will stop to
make empty discussions. i dont't know how it is out of italy but
here i read some big lies.
i really want to collect the story of all mac users, some sort of :
i use mac or i got my mac ....
i beg your help , please pass this message to all mac blind users.
for those who want to write me their story please write me off list
to:
rossy.kk@xxxxxxxxx
please consider if it can be usefull to answer the following
questions:
name or nick name
age
since when do you use mac
why did you choose mac
what can you do with your mac: please describe your activities in a
way that others can gather what is possibile with voiceover, you
can include your blog, or websites.
what advice do you want to give to the new arrivals.
please write me off list, and please help me in this difficolt
mission, i appreciate any testimonials and you can add or suggest
anything which can halp toinform how good is mac.
sorry for this long mail , i wish i could speak a better english.

Hi,
Over the past decade or so I have been on a number of different
lists with Donna. She, like most of us did at some point
(excepting of course David and Lioncourt who have Macintosh
accessibility in their DNA <laugh>) will ask some newbie
questions. Coming over from JAWS or some other Windows SR or orca
and GNU/Linux systems the questions will certainly contain a bias
as our expectations will be preset by the learning we have already
done in the past.
Donna, on the other lists from where I've known her, has always
provided a lot of help to newbies once she has learned how to
approach a task. It is my not at all humble opinion that Donna is
a terrific asset to any online community that is interested in
technology and people with vision impairment.
I think it would be a valuable exercise but also one that will take
a lot of time and effort to create a document with a name like,
"VoiceOver Eye for the JAWS Guy" or something similar that
provides basic tutorial information about VO but also provides a
"this is how you did it with JAWS but this is a Macintosh with
VoiceOver and we do things this way..."
Maybe someone could even write a little program that just
presents a table with JAWS Way, VO Way as columns for major
functions and a detail button for functions with no direct
analogues on the other platform.
Obviously, someone could add Window-Eyes, HAL, System Access and
orca but with a worldwide market-share of over 90%, JAWS is the
most likely screen reader one would be leaving to start using a
Macintosh.
Everything from how VO speaks the character at the insertion point
to table navigation is very different from the Windows and GNU
platforms. A little understanding and patience and we'll make a
new friend and add a terrific mind to our community.
Peace,
cdh
.

Hi all,
Recently, when searching for text on a webpage using command-F, I
saw a button that said 2 results found, but I seemed to have no
way to actually see the results. How do you view results when
searching on a webpage?
Thanks,
Donna
