When it says there's an update, does it give you a link or button to get
the update? If so, try that button or link and see if it downloads
automatically or takes you to the website so you can find it. If there's
no such link or button, then you go to the website and check for the
update. It definitely won't update automatically without you taking any
action; the automatic part is that it checks for updates and notifies you.
