The reason you get a file named http.url is that the site you went to did not put anything into the title area of the head of the HTML file. So the title defaults to the url statement in Safari and the first world of the url statement is http.
You can change the name of the http.url file to anything you like so long as it ends with .url

It does put the link, in this case, on the desktop and it does say that it is an "HTML" file. It looks like a web arkyve, but most importantly, it works.
