Very sad but not at all surprising. This has actually been their stance all along though it sounded for a while as though there might be hope for the iPhone. This basically forces one to use the NLS player or buy "blind" products which is part of their attempt at preventing misuse but I think is overkill. There are other ways to protect content and certainly always ways around for which NLS has no solution. You see the same overkill with web braille where they make you sign the agreement with each and every volume you download. But this is not to minimize the fact that misuse is a constant threat and I would imagine an all-too-present reality.
