hi travis,
thanx for yor answer. i agree that it works fine like this. it's a bit
noisy to make the scanner and then the ocr , but i am so happy to have
all the functions that i need !
i use mac book since march 09 and finally i have all the apps i used
to have on pc , and i think i can leave behind my esperience with pc.
i installed voyscan , which performs some basic ocr, and allows me to
scan with a wide range of scanners, then if i need some ocr
complicated by tables , all i have to do is load my files to iris.
maybe one day i can learn how to make work flows but now it is just
fine like this.

hi all,
does anybody uses iris ?
it seems that i can not read the main window .
This is not a problem.
When iris pro (version 9) comes up, there's nothing to read in the
main window (at least according to voiceover)
However, you can accomplish all you need to by using the menus.
Command-r will recognize a document (if you already have one scanned
and saved as a document, you'll of course have to load it first) and
command-s will save the ocred text.
There are others on the list who have tried (with various degrees of
success) to get it to work with their scanners. For the most part,
I get documents that are already scanned in, and all I require is
the ocr portion of iris reader, so the integration with the scanner
isn't something I've fiddled with.
One note though, for me at least, read iris works considerably
better on my macbook than it does on my mini.
It still works, but various difficulties present themselves when
working on the mini that just aren't present when using the
macbook. Why this is, I have no idea, they both have the same
memory, and similar graphics cards, so it's a mystery to me, but if
all you want to do is ocr documents, read iris works great, if
you're looking to scan documents as well, you may have a long
frustrating road ahead, or maybe not, depending on lots of factors.
Only thing to do is try it all, (using the menus or shortcut keys to
access things) and see how it works for you.
Cheryl has had a lot of experience trying to get read iris to work
on her machine, so she may have additional information for you.
Version 11 seems to act differently than version 9 (which is what iI
have) so that could play a part too, I just don't know.
It's a bit too expensive for me to buy the latest version for a
comparison.
