Yes, VO (the screen reader) is updated frequently with bug fixes and such as well as major improvements in OS releases. In the $29 upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard, VO included some incredibly valuable and innovative new stuff as well as a ton of more mundane but highly useful improvements. So, for $29, we got the new VO plus the new OS.
Yesterday, I received a letter from FS in the mail. It said that since I had received my JAWS 11 CD, my SMA had expired and offered me "help" to renew it. For roughly 10 times the price of a Mac OS upgrade, I can get the next two JAWS releases and, in the meantime, let my money sit in their account. I'll probably do it because I sometimes need JAWS for my work but I bristle at the huge difference in cost.
