Hello Ben,

If you want to reduce the brightness of your screen, it can easily be 
accomplished with a Mac Book.  Depending on how your machine is set up, you 
need only press the F1 key to reduce your brightness or press the FN Key while 
simultaneously pressing the F1 key. Voice Over will say: "Display Brightness, 
100 percent," or whatever your current  brightness level is.  Keep pressing one 
of the aforementioned key(s) until you find a brightness level that is good for 
you.  You can increase the brightness by pressing F2 or FN+F2.

I really like this feature since for those of us who can't see the screen, you 
can turn the display brightness all the way down to zero thereby, I assume, 
increasing the battery life.
