The Mini does not need a monitor plugged in. You don't even need
a mouse.
I'm writing this message on a Mini with a keyboard connected, and
it's power supply.
When I bought my mini, the mic and web cam were not important to
have built in.
True the Mini does not run on battery but it's small enough to
carry around the house, moving it from room to room if you have
AC power.

I also don't think the mini has a built-in mic or webcam like
the iMac does.

I found a mac mini for $450 on amazon with the latest mac OS
leopard. What are the advantages of mac over windows? Do
more applications work on the mac than work on windows? I also

used a mac in Colorado and liked it. but I also like my windows
machine as well. I have a windows xp netbook. I wonder if it
would play nicely with the mac mini?
