Is that bc the same as what's found on Linux systems? If so, that so far
as I know isn't a spreadsheet but a programmable calculator. If bc can do
matrices and import from and export to csv files or if a perl script can
do that for bc, then excel compatibility is no problem. excel can import
and export csv files.

There's a program called bc.
It's installed by default on your mac, so if you want a spread sheet
program, there it is.
Of course, it's not excel compatible, but it's there if you just want
spreadsheet functions.
