out of those 2 , I would probably go with the macbook pro; it's portable, faster, and has a screen keyboard and touschpad.

Well went to apple site and did some more looking and the Mac air still
don't have a media drive. So this puts this out. I have thought about the
Mac mini and loading it up with ram and I think it takes 8 gb now and then
replacing the HD with a SSD drive and using it. The SSD drive will cost me a extra 300 bucks install on top of the order price. So this would make a good
option for me as well as the 13th inch Mac book pro with the SSD drive and
the max of gb of ram. So I think I have narrowed it down to these to.

HI

the new macbook air does look really cool, though it's small storage could
make it a problem. I know.. you can use external harddrives, but running
applications from those drives isn't recommended, and it's just one more
periferal. BUt... if you want a small laptop for on teh go, that's the best.

I have a 13" macbook, and can honestly say that next time i'd definetly get the pro instead. THe macbook's feature list is silly compared to laptops of
it's price range (admitedly not mac's, but still) and has given me several
problems recently. It's also not the most durable of computers; a few knocks
and you'll find yourself needing a small screwdriver.

I've been able to use the pro, and love it. It's fast, relyable, durable,
has reasonable built in sound, and is just an all round good computer.

The mac mini was my first mac; since I got it in march 2009, it's never
failed on me and has always exceeded my expectations. From E-mails to web
serfing, to music creating in garageband and logic express, to running
windows and linux in virtual machines; the mac mini just doesn't stop. It
can sometimes slow down noticably if I try to run too much, but that's
expectable, and the newer mac mini's will be faster still. HOwever, this
doesn't come with any periferals; you have to provide a mouse, keyboard,
monitor, and touchpad if you want one (the magic trackpad)

The iMac is also a brilliant choice; i've used one of these, and know people
who use them all the time. It's a great option, comes with everything you
need, is extremely fast and relyable, and also relatively silent.

The mac pro is the biggest of the apple range, both in size of the actual
machine and hardware spec. yOu can have up to 12 CPU cores with 2 CPU's, 32 gb or ram, and 4 harddrives giving you up to 8 tb storage. If you're a power
user, or are thinking of running vista :), this is the machine to go for.
Most day-to-day users don't need this kind of power.

My recommendation?
If you want a laptop with power, get the macbook pro. If you want a really
light, portable laptop, go for the air.
If you want a average desktop that has enough power to do pretty much
anything, get the iMac. If you want a basic desktop for advanced tasks such
as word processing, e-mail, web browsing etc get the mini.
And if you need 8TB of storage, 12 cores of CPU power, a huge amount of ram,
and a 1000 wat power supply, the mac pro is the best option.

Sorry this was such a long message...

Yes, I was thinking about the Mac mini but the track pad sort of make it
attracted the Mac books. I now have consider the Mac book, Mac book pro 13
inch and have thought about the new Mac book air. Now I have not throwed
the
Mac mini out the door either. What do you all think of the new Mac air
that
is coming out?

Greetings,

I changed the subject line to reflect what we are now into.

I purchased a mac mini earlier this year. I did that because of price and
things like that. Now that I have one I wonder if I should have gone a
slightly different direction. The mini does meet my needs since you
definitely need a monitor connected to it for efficient use either an Imac
or a Macbook probably would have done even better. Price wise the newest
Macbook Air, entry price $999 even though it has less storage and memory
than some of the others may well be a good choice. That would also give
you
the advantage of a built-in trackpad which may well be a good thing.

Will do very interested in this since in the near future I plan on getting

a
Mac. Now another question. What Mac do you all have and why did you make
that choice?

You can be sure that parts of it will be, but, I don't know any one who
has
it yet.

Stay tuned.
