when you need to use a serial based device to your mac mini my friend you get a USB to serial convertor. I agree with greg about keyspan working very well on that front. you fit the serial connection to the embosser and then the USB port to the port on the mac

sadly we dont have ADB or serial on macs. unlike my old friends those early G3 machines and PPC macs. wow they bring back the days for me.

you wont have a problem connecting your braille embosser to the mac with this cable. so it will work well for you

ok, so you mean, on a mac(mini) you have a serial port with 9/25 dots)?
and then , I should connect my printer to the serial port of my
mac(mini) with a null-modem cabel?

Any kind of braille embosser that has a serial port should work. You
will need a USB to Serial converter such as a keyspan. I use a older
Juliet Brailler. I have also tested an old Romeo 40 embosser and an
index embosser. The key is in having a serial port on the embosser. in therory you could also use bluetooth to do this as well and Parallel to
Bluetooth adapters do exist.

Hello,
I hope we understand each other well.
I mean, my braille printer is a parallel printer , at the moment
connected
on my parallel port of me linux pc /dev/lpt0.

Anyway, I have a usb-to-serial convertor myself.
but, I think, this shouldn't work because:
1 side of the cable has a usb-connection to put in my pc, this is
ok.
The other part of the cable has 25 dots.

So, my printercable has also 25 dots to put in the pc, so this
doesn't
work I think.
Is this not what you mean with a serial convertor?

But, when the printer is properly connected, I should need a
driver,
a
way to format my papersize, a way to chose the
brailletranslator.....

Or perhaps, the settings of the embosser will be used?

best regards
William Windels

A keysapn USB to serial adapter like this:

It is needed to connect a Mac to a serial device. Your index
Everest
should work fine as it has a serial interface. You will need a
null-
modem cable or adapter and perhaps various kinds of gender changer
adapters depending on the connections on the embosser and the
cables.

You will want an embosser with a serial port as well as a USB to
serial
adapter, I suggest the Keyspan adapter. It may also be
possible to
use a
Parallel to Bluetooth adapter but I have not personally tried
it. At
this
point Louis does not support USB embossers.

Louis will translate text, Word, xml, html and a wide range of
documents. It supports many different braille codes in many
languages.
You can write you own translation tables for Louis if you wish.

Hello again,

Is here someone who hava experiences with printing in
braile on a
mac?
I don't know if it's possible but perhaps, it should be
possible
with
some types of braille printers.
I can have a new one so, if I take the right one, this will
be nice.

and also about braille tables:
I asked here before but is het somebody who knows about other
brailletables then the Us-table?
Normally I use the dutch one.
Is this kind of brailletable also available or can I adapt
the us-
table?

thanx in advance
