This will work just find you need to configure the embosser to use serial as opposed to Parallel. you will also need a serial cable with male 25 pin on the embosser end and female 9 pin on the other. this is a fairly standard cable used all the time to connect things like external modems and such you might also need a null modem adapter which will go at the 25 pin cable end.
Louis has setting for number of cells on a line and number of line to the page. There may be similar setting in the embosser's firmware as well.

Hello, I hope we understand each other well.I mean, my braille printer is a parallel printer , at the moment connectedon my parallel port of me linux pc /dev/lpt0. Anyway, I have a usb-to-serial convertor myself. but, I think, this shouldn't work because: 1 side of the cable has a usb-connection to put in my pc, this is ok. The other part of the cable has 25 dots. So, my printercable has also 25 dots to put in the pc, so this doesn't work I think. Is this not what you mean with a serial convertor? But, when the printer is properly connected, I should need a driver, a way to format my papersize, a way to chose the brailletranslator..... Or perhaps, the settings of the embosser will be used? best regards William Windels On Wed, Apr 02, 2008 at 11:41:13AM -0600, Greg Kearney wrote:A keysapn USB to serial adapter like this: http://www.keyspan.com/products/usa19hs/ It is needed to connect a Mac to a serial device. Your index Everest should work fine as it has a serial interface. You will need a null- modem cable or adapter and perhaps various kinds of gender changer adapters depending on the connections on the embosser and the cables. Greg Kearney 535 S. I am thecoauthor of Louis the free open-source braille translator for Mac. http://w3.wmcnet.org/braille/louis/ You will want an embosser with a serial port as well as a USB to serial adapter, I suggest the Keyspan adapter. It may also be possible to use aParallel to Bluetooth adapter but I have not personally tried it. Atthis point Louis does not support USB embossers. Louis will translate text, Word, xml, html and a wide range of documents. It supports many different braille codes in many languages. You can write you own translation tables for Louis if you wish.
