Generally in the MacOS you choose a file with a getfile dialog. There
is a standard scripting extention that has this function in the OS
the problem being that it is not very navigable via VoiceOver. You
can do this
set theFile to choose file with prompt "Get me a file" of type "TEXT"
Another approach is to use automator whose interface is able to
navigate with VO. In this case you would use the Ask for Finder items
action and then pass the results onto a awk shell script.
