If there's a faster and/or easier way to make playlists, I sure don't know of
any. I'm sure you know by now that you can't interact with iTunes directly
from your drive. I'm in the middle of building a six-thousand-ish song
playlist again, but the good news is I'm just over two-thirds of the way done.
Also, I can't stress this enough: When you get playlists the way you want
them, export them to a safe place. That way if you ever have to rebuild your
library, you won't lose them. And if you're building any really big ones, back
them up every time you finish a session. I export them to xml files which is
what iTunes uses.
