yes I dont see a problem in you running the apps in fusion. I dont recommend using bootcamp for running windows. so use fusion. my personal feelings though are dont put windows on a mac. a mac is a mac and not a doorstop. lol

Oh, I know Kurzweil has problems. That's why I only use it for reading as opposed to relying on it for any sort of writing or word processing. And I know these programs don't have mac versions. I wasn't necessarily wanting another mac program that's equivalent to them. Sorry for that confusion. I would still like to be able to continue to use them, so I was just wondering if they will run on the mac when it is operating in Windows, and if so, if they'd run in fusion or just bootcamp. I'm basically trying to figure out if I can use them if I had a mac, or if I need to just get a regular Windows laptop.Sarah ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lewis Brock" <lewisjbrock@xxxxxxx> To: <macvoiceover@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, April 13, 2008 11:46 AM Subject: [macvoiceover] Re: Windows on a Macwellkurzweil 1000 isnt available on the mac nor the other app. but we do have a scanning app which does a rather jolly good job as long as you have a reliable scanner that has drivers for the mac. its called read iris pro. really good program and I use it a fair bit. not as hot as kurzweil to some but kurzweil isnt exactly a good program to some of us. it is buggy and the developers dont want to really help us out for the mac platform. so basically if you want to use the mac and have a real good program. get readiris pro. cant remember the website but you'll find it on googlelew On 13 Apr 2008, at 19:42, Sarah Clark wrote:The windows based programs I'd miss are Kurzweil 1000 and Abbyy Find Reader. Abbyy is an OCR program that I happen to prefer for scanning because I think its recognition does the best job. Its just an off the shelf program that happens to work well with Jaws. I use Kurzweil for reading primarily because of its very convenient bookmarking feature and the keyword find feature which is far more efficient than the equivalent find feature in MS Word. I'd also need to know if Jaws can be used while using Windows on the mac with fusion. (since it sounds like VO will not be usable while Windows programs are running.)Sarah ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jude DaShiell" <jdashiel@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx > To: <macvoiceover@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, April 13, 2008 12:07 AM Subject: [macvoiceover] Re: Windows on a MacWhat windows-based programs would you miss? There may already be substitutes available for you or such may become available. On Sat, 12 Apr 2008, Sarah Clark wrote:Hi All,I just joined this list. I have always been a Windows user, but I will be getting a new laptop soon and am considering getting a mac. The accessibility of the mac with Voice Over sounds great and I'm sure I would enjoy it once I'd get used to the difference in its functionality as compared to Jaws and Windows. But there are still a couple of Windows based programs that I'd really miss if I had a mac, so I have some questions as to the usability of Windows on a mac. I know that you can get a mac with either the bootcamp or parallel set up. I was told that both will allow you to also run Windows on the mac machine, but with bootcamp you must turn the machine off and then boot it back up into Windows, whereas with parallel you can switch over to Windows without actually needing to turn the machine off. I am trying to find out if you can use Kurzweil on the Windows side, and if so, if it matters if you have the bootcamp or parallel setup. The other program I would like to be able to use is Abbyy Find Reader, so if anyone has experience with that program, the same question goes. Also, does Voice Over work while you are using Windows? If not, can you have Jaws on it for Windows? These are the main considerations I have. If I would have the ability to use Kurzweil and Abbyy Find Reader on the laptop, I would not hesitate in getting a mac. Thanks, Sarah Clark Click on the link below to go to our homepage. http://www.icanworkthisthing.comManage your subscription by using the web interface on the link below.//www.freelists.org/list/macvoiceover Users can subscribe to this list by sending email to macvoiceover-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxxwith 'subscribe' in the Subject field OR by logging into the Web interface at //www.freelists.org/list/macvoiceoverClick on the link below to go to our homepage. http://www.icanworkthisthing.comManage your subscription by using the web interface on the link below.//www.freelists.org/list/macvoiceover Users can subscribe to this list by sending email to macvoiceover-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxxwith 'subscribe' in the Subject field OR by logging into the Web interface at //www.freelists.org/list/macvoiceoverMr. Lewis BrockTotally blind musician and composer of 21st century synth orchestral musicPhone: +44 07857 352828 E-Mail: lewisjbrock@xxxxxxx Skype: lewisjbrockClick on the link below to go to our homepage. http://www.icanworkthisthing.comManage your subscription by using the web interface on the link below.//www.freelists.org/list/macvoiceover Users can subscribe to this list by sending email to macvoiceover-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxxwith 'subscribe' in the Subject field OR by logging into the Web interface at //www.freelists.org/list/macvoiceoverClick on the link below to go to our homepage. http://www.icanworkthisthing.comManage your subscription by using the web interface on the link below.//www.freelists.org/list/macvoiceover Users can subscribe to this list by sending email to macvoiceover-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxxwith 'subscribe' in the Subject field OR by logging into the Web interface at //www.freelists.org/list/macvoiceover
