[macvoiceover] Re: What do you do with your MAC?

Hi,

Keith, this is a great idea. I do find some of the new bugs with text editing
(needing to interact when we didn't before in Mail and TextEdit, COMMAND+DEL
reading the whole line instead of the word that was deleted and a few other
minor issues) but, while these annoy me, I still use my Mac for a whole lot of
things quite productively.

I do many of the same things you do so rather than bore our readers with
repetitive lists, I'll toss in a handful of the tasks I've used my Mac for
recently.

* I did a presentation called "MacAttack" at the Mid-Atlantic ACB convention
and, without preparation for Q&A, we opened up the final 15 minutes to any
questions and demonstrated nearly everything that was requested. When at FS,
I made the same offer with JAWS and PAC Mate and never got through without some
gnarly bug-a-boo turning up. VoiceOver has far fewer features than JAWS but
those that it has are rock solid (sorry GW for using your phrase) enough to let
strangers pick a feature and perform it without rehearsal.

* I use Adium for chat with people on a wide variety of different services.
This is a really good and highly accessible program that I like a lot.

* I use Syrinx as a twitter client. This is pretty accessible but as I don't
look at twitter much, I can't say that I have a lot of time actually using it.

* I use TextEdit a ton because a lot of what I do requires writing. I have
iWork but I haven't been able to get the knack of Pages yet and frustrate too
easily to spend enough time with it to learn it well enough to be at all
efficient.

* I use Terminal to ssh into my under development web site. I also use Safari
to go into my Drupal login page and it handles the task of dealing with Drupal,
a really excellent albeit somewhat complicated web interface very well.

* I use Skype to talk to people all over the world.

* I play music in iTunes across our wifi network, onto an Airport Express
which is plugged into my really killer audiophile stereo with virtually no
trouble.

* I get audio from iTunes Store and eMusic but prefer lossless files so still
buy a bunch of CDs online.

* We download and watch rented movies from iTunes on our iMac.

* I download books from the NLS digital download site and move them onto my CF
card for listening to them on my Victor Stream. I've been considering a
BookSense since I've seen a friend's but that isn't really apropos to a how I
use a Mac discussion.

* I write on our project wiki using Safari almost daily.

* What else do I do that may not be on Keith's list?

Happy Hacking,
cdh
