Hi,

I thought voiceover in 2011 was a mixed bag. Voiceover on IOS has added great
new features. Being literally "accessible out the box is great. If using a
3GS or iPhone 4 there is a slight performance hit though. None at all if using
a 4S. Same goes for voiceover on Lion. But I think the ratio is a little
different. For all the great advancements made in Lion like, drag and drop,
new voices, 1 letter navigation on the web, etc, there are some bugs that just
hover over and just takes away from the voiceover experience in my opinion.
The busy problem is the biggest culprit. I don't have it as bad as some but,
its there. In Safari, in Garageband, and even in the finder. You have the
wild pitch changes when using the new voices, as well as the inability to
change the pitch yourself. In my opinion, what makes the Mac great is its
stability. I think although voiceover might have taken a step forward with
Lion, the instability negates much of this forward progress. I feel over time
most, if not all of these issues will be sorted out though. The engineers at
Apple have great pride in their work, and take bugs seriously.
