I did have the quick nav keys turned on so I've turned them off now and i can read character by character again in mail which is great. I'm having difficulty editing text in a miss spelled word. Is there an easy way to get around this? ----- Original Message ----- From: Dean Wilcox To: macvoiceover@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, May 12, 2010 5:30 AM Subject: [macvoiceover] Re: Voiceover cursor. I think the left and right cursor keys are moving word by word because you have quick nav turned on. To hide thecaption pannel which is what shows the voiceover cursor messages, go to vo utility, choose "visuals and you'll find several tabs, one of which is "caption panel" set it to the lowest settings for everything but transparency and 100 percent for that. You can also turn off all the other visuals in those tabs. if you want to just turn visuals off temporarily, press vo-11. To set cursors, go to vo utility, and choose navigation, tab through there and uncheck checkboxes to turn off an action and check them to turn on actions. The exception is mouse cursor, it has three positions which are "follows vo cursor", "ignores vo cursor" and "moves voiceover cursor". "ignores voiceover cursor is selected by default and it should stay that way to prevent issues in the interface. On May 10, 2010, at 3:10 PM, Sue Morgan wrote: Hi. I've been playing around with the VoiceOver settings, and when in Mail for example, using the left and right arrow keys is reading by word instead of letter in a new message. Any idea if there's a default setting for VoiceOver as I'm not sure what I changed to make that happen. I'm also wondering if there's a way of getting rid of the VoiceOver commands on the screen as I don't need a sighted person to see them. I notice also that the VoiceOver cursor follows the mouse cursor and vice versa. Should I leave them checked? Sorry to ask so many questions. I currently use Windows with Jaws but my Parents have a Mac and it would be good for me to get around there machine with VoiceOver when I'm at their house. Sue.
