ok keith, here's how to break bo. open seven apps. when vo stops announcing apps as you command tab or windows as you command accent and so on, press command-f5 to turn it off, press it again to turn it on, no go. even if you shut down all the apps, it doesn't work. the only thing you can do if you press command-f5 to turn vo off to get it back up and running is to either feel your way to the universal prrefs and flip the on switch or restart your mac so instead of having to do either of these, we find and use the switch with vo running. I can replicate this 100 percent of the time.

Hi, Keith!
Y ou know, I had a feeling someone would mention this! Early on in my mac career, I had to turn vo off for some reason which I can't recall. Well, I pressed command-f5, then again to turn vo back on, and no go. It got to the point where I had to put in the CD that came with the mac to get vo up and running. So, now I stick to the system prefs/universal access method. A little gunshy of the command-f5, I guess! But thanks for pointing me in that direction. After all, how were you to know smile? Marcy

Actually,

You can just do this with command-f5.

Hi, Keith,
In reading this email all the way down, I never saw your post about turning vo off and then on again. I haven't had the problem this evning, though I had my computer powered down due to t-storms earlier. I'll certainly try that the next time it happens, which hopefully it won't! And I'll probably go into system prefs, universal access, tab twice to on, arrow down to turn vo off, then arrow up to turn vo on again! Thanks! Marcy

Shuting it off with command-f5 shuts it down and brings it back up.

Hi Keith,

Do you mean shutting it off with command F5, or does this only mute VO?

Hey you guys and gals, some times we may run in to a keyboard focus issue and it sounds like thats what Marcy is seeing. Just turn VO off and then back on and I think that should help.

when I type, I do not hear anything but what I type no matter how long I type and no matter how many lines it goes to. I hear the occasional modifier key randomly spoken and If I brush the trackpad I hear strange stuff but otherly, it's all just input.

Hmmm... I have vo set to only repeat character, as in key echo, but not word or word and character. Somthing tells me this problem started after perhaps this latest update or the previous one. Wonder if it's some kind of bug? Marcy

no, the only time vo reads other lines for me is when I move through the document but it is actually reading the correct line. I use character as my setting for typing not word or word and character. if you use any of the other two, when vo goes to the next line, it'll read the prior line.

Hi, Russell, Ash, and all,
I've not only noticed that problem, but also sometimes while I'm typing, vo is talking but other lines than what I am typing at the time. It can be very annoying when I'm trying to hear the letters I'm typing! Anyone having this experience either? Marcy

Subject: [macvoiceover] VO reading lines twice

Hi all,

I'm noticing an odd behavior when typing in a new email message or a new note. When I arrow through my message or note after typing it, VO reads each line of text twice. Has anyone else had this problem? My resolution was set at 1680 by 1050, so I changed it to 1024 by 768,
but this didn't change anything. Any ideas?

Russell
