I think what is being referred to here is the fact that in all the hardware lists VO simply says "unknown" when you're looking at the table in Fusion 2. This is annoying but by no means a show-stopper, as the fields right next to it will tell you everything you ned to know about what that hardware is. Interestingly enough, for me fusion is actually much faster than version 1 was, though if you have an old VM it may be necessary to upgrade the VM and the VMWare tools package inside it.

Not so. In both version 1.X and 2.X, hardware changes were completely accessible. You can, for instance, change the RAM by typing the amount into the edit field. You could interact with the slider, too, if you like, but it's easier to type into the edit field. Getting to the right bit of hardware even works (but I can't remember how it's laid out just at the moment).
*My* particular issue with Fusion is that version 2.0 is a *lot* slower than version 1.X was. I mean, the VM takes for-bloody-ever to start up. I'm sure upping this MacBook from 1 GB to 2 will help, but still. It really is considerably slower on my system.
