[macvoiceover] Re: Using the Ipad's Keyboard

Hi David, yes, now I see; I would consider that to be rather inconvenient if using an external keyboard.

Hi T and all;

The external keyboard use is for typing only. This means that you have to interact with the touch screen to open apps and such.

Hi David, thanks for your experiences; while my final decision will be based on what the device is actually like when I can get a look at one (probably early June), the experiences of others will be something to keep in mind when testing the product.

I'm not sure I understand, are you saying that there are limitations (features not available) when operating the IPad from an external keyboard? Or, perhaps you're saying that it is less productive to do so.

ok, If it is experiences you want, here are mine:

1> the ipad is uncomfortably large both in realestate and screen size for *my* needs. (that's not to say I won't buy one <giggle> 2> It takes much longer and is much arder to get used to and use the ipad than it does the iphone and the ipod touch both of which I have had since they have been in the current generation.

3> I'm glad I will be able to use any bluetooth keyboard with it because the keyboard doc connector is unstable.

4> it is sad that you cannot use the ipad entirely from the external keyboard for this punches holes in productivity

I've got more to say but I'll end by saying that despite its shortcomings, I love the ipad. It's a revolutionary device!

Hi Keith, thanks for the link, I've already been there, as well as the Apple site for accessibility. There's some good information there, but other's experiences can be of great help.

Hi Terry,

I do not have an iPad, however I have an iPhone and I find the onscreen keyboard quite usable. The iPhone and the iPad are much the same thing, with the iPad being larger. When your finger runs across an icon the name of the icon is spoken and dropping another finger anywhere on the screen will open the app.

Hello list:

I've not posted before, and I don't own any Apple products, so I don't know much about Voice Over and how effective it would be on something like the IPad. I'm thinking specifically of the on-screen keyboard, and how usable it would be with Voice Over and no-vision? I can't quite get my head around entering text this way, or are people using an external keyboard? I would be interested in knowing how folks are using their IPad ...
