Hi David, thanks for the info; I'm looking for something portable, to do a little surfing, e-mail (that sometimes gets a little long), and something with a spread-sheet app for keeping track of certain data results while on the road. I've also seen mention of IBooks, and if the books are accessible that would be another use for the device. I've also been looking at the IPhone, but the plans here in Canada seem rather expensive!

If you are planning doing a lot of typing of long documents, by all means get the keyboard doc although it decreases the portability of the device and does not fit well to the ipad in my experience.

Thanks Olivia, I'll have to look at the Keyboard Dock if I end up going the IPad route.

I use my iPad with both a keyboard doc and the on screen keyboard. The on screen keyboard is easy to use and works well. For longer tasks, like email or word processing, the iPad keyboard doc works well.

Dear Terry,
Typing on the iPad's keyboard is quite easy. You have two modes of typing. One being the standard mode of typing which is the double tap or split tap and the other mode being touch typing. In regards to touch typing, you find the letter with your finger and than lift your finger off and the letter will be typed for you. Apple's products are quite simple to use. Once you have the touch screen motions down you will be able to use the iPhone iPod touch and iPad without any problems. I use both a Mac and an iPod touch on a daily basis without any problems. Have a wonderful evening.

Hello list:

I've not posted before, and I don't own any Apple products, so I don't know much about Voice Over and how effective it would be on something like the IPad. I'm thinking specifically of the on-screen keyboard, and how usable it would be with Voice Over and no-vision? I can't quite get my head around entering text this way, or are people using an external keyboard? I would be interested in knowing how folks are using their IPad ...
